Old news now, but still staggeringly stupid. For two weeks the word out of the White House has been that Obama is prepared to go with a partisan Bill and that 2010, and 2012 are on the line. Now DeMint hammers that message home to Democratic waivers AND puts naked, cynical politics out front.

As noted by others here, the President's response was pitch perfect: "This isn't about me. This isn't about politics ... This is about a health care system that is breaking America's families, breaking America's businesses and breaking America's economy. And we can't afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care. Not this time, not now."

What I can't understand was what DeMint thought he was doing. These are rookie mistakes, the sort of red meat served to the base during a primary. not the polished FUD tried and trusted in the past. What is going on here?
