I remember when President Obama's wonderful race speech in Philly re: Rev Wright was supposed to usher in more discussions about race in America. Not surprisingly the media and American in general failed to use that opportunity to push the issue forward.
Now that Obama has gracefully helped turn down the temperature on this Gates issue, whilst urging that this be a teachable moment, I don't expect the media to discuss race and prejudice in any meaningful way until the next racial controversy.
Eric Holder was right. We are a nation of cowards.
In my mind it was just the latest distraction. Nothing was accomplished. Gates and Obama managed to roll a ball of tinfoil across the floor and the media -- like kittens -- scurried after it and played with it until they became bored.
Gates will remain pissed off, the cop will milk his fifteen minutes of fame, and Obama will get back to running the country.
2. Hell, some at DU don't want us discussing it here, either

It's knocking the other stories off of the front page...stories that are much more important. You know DUers are only supposed to talk about one issue at a time. And after all, this week's events really don't affect any of us here anyway.
Time to move on. Quit taking up space on the issue.
