27. Right. Obama has extended his open palm over and over to the repukes..
only to be vilified and ridiculed. I always suspected that all this talk about working with chuckles grassley and the other repukes was a rope-a-dope of sorts. The repukes have made a spectacle of themselves. Now, Obama owes them nothing. GOBAMA! :applause:

37. Not so much rope-a-dope as inoculation.
Obama basically has the art of inoculation against spurious attacks down pat. A prime example is when he pushed his health care plan. He didn't force anyone to change anything really....he just added to the plan that's already in affect. So when he says people can keep their plan, he's saying the government is not the one going to come in there and change your plan or force you to do this or that. You do it on your own. So if the Republicans wanted to argue that front like they did in the 90s they'd have failed miserably because Obama said during the primaries and after his win that he wouldn't be doing any such thing. You'll notice that the Repubs don't even get into that sort of argument they use a Republican based plan as an argument---which is losing steam as it comes out more and more that it was Republicans who pushed that ideal.

So when we see Obama saying he wants to play bipartisan it's all a ploy basically. Obama is not oblivious or stupid. He knows and has said the Republicans have shown themselves to be the party of "no." That being said he wants to have their involvemet. Why? Not because he probably really wants their involvement but the media can't spin as they did in the 90s, when it was a Democratic leader who wrote the health care reform bill, that he wasn't playing with everyone at the table. You'll notice the weakest argument the Repubs have is that Obama is not being bipartisan and the Repubs aren't at the table.

And it forces the discussion from being on the personal side or the administration side to being directly and only about policy which the Republicans are continuously losing at. Basically he safe guards himself in various ways from silly attacks and forcing the issue about policy which the "other" side can't manage.

The only thing I don't like about this story is the fact that we're hearing about it prospectively. Since they've leaked that they're "considering" going it alone and dropping the bipartisan bullshit that suggests that what they are really trying to achieve is to bring the Rethugs back to the table in a better mood to compromise. My objections to allowing Republicans to infect the health care reform bill don't need restating. I would hope that if they really mean to go it alone and/or don't succeed in bringing the Pukes back with a more compliant attitude (stay gone Pukes, stay gone!) that they would strip out all the poison pills that have accumulated in the draft plans during the time they wasted in haggling with the congenitally dishonest Republicans. Make it a real reform -one worth doing and whose worth will ensure its longevity.

16. Or a trap block........
As its name implies, a defensive player is baited and then trapped. He is allowed through the offensive line only to be blocked by another player behind the line, usually a tight end, who is often put in motion on a trap block so that he gets to the area behind the line of scrimmage where the defensive player is coming through the line. On a "trap play," the running back attacks the hole left by the vacated lineman. ;)

7. And they never stop trying to kill it do they ? No they don't. So it DOES NOT FUCKING MATTER
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 01:53 AM by kenny blankenship
If we can pass health care reform we should pass the BEST reform we can design. If it works it will survive on its own because the people will guard it like Social Security. If it's a piece of Republican infected crap, people won't see the point of it and it will blow away and be forgot.

If you want to know the trivia of how the parties voted on Medicare you can read about it here. Blow the dust off the page, read, and make your footnotes. Back here in the world of the living, I can tell you how many Republicans were going to vote for the bill Grassley and Baucus were hatching between them: ZERO - the same level of support the Stimulus bill received from House Republicans. After injecting all their cancerous crap into it, and after being given disproportionate influence in its creation, the Repukes were still going to vote against it. Grassley even said he was going to vote against it- and he's being allowed to write it. That's the way they roll and I welcome their enmity.

If we write a good bill they will be trying to kill it 3 generations hence and more, just like Social Security. If we write a crappy bill and let the Republicans poison it, it will die on its own in less than 20 years.

I love this shit. Wow...Thanks Clio this is brilliance. Republicans are going to be taken out----done with Grassley. Haha!!

I understand the Chessmaster theme now. This is like an almost check mate move..actually it's a Check move. I don't think the Repubs will be going anywhere.

11. Holy crap. I missed a lot. I spent all night doing other stuff and come on
here right before I go to bed and I watch this CNN clip. Wow. I think Chuck Grasshead really stepped into it on this one as did the other Rethugs. They won't negotiate on anything and neither will the conservadems well screw them!
I personally think the Sebelious thing was put out there on purpose to see just how strongly the public option was supported by the base and Dems in general. I think at the end of it all its the only option he has left and its put the Rethugs in a corner. No support of even co opts? Well, Obama tried bipartisanship and it did not work. No wonder Dean was confident these last few days. Perhaps he knew something we did not.

15. Often the people we complain about.......
...... at least the ones on OUR side .... have more knowledge about the matter at hand in their little pinky toes than we have here, collectively, in all of our bodies.

I could sit on my couch and complain about how LaDainian Tomlinson plays football, but the truth is, if he challenged me in a 100 yard dash, not only would he beat me by a HUGE margian, I'd be winded after 20 yards. ;)

Not only does he have more RAW TALENT than I have ..... but he simply understands THE GAME.

sometimes the "Michael" approach works a lot better than the "Sonny Approach". Sonny's way might feel better on a gut level but Michael's way leaves them cut and bleeding on the floor and the bastards never know what hit them until its too late.
