"U.S. Rep. Dave Obey remains committed to passing national health care reform with a government-run option, despite the White House and some in Congress moving toward nonprofit cooperatives as a compromise.

The Wausau Democrat, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee with a reputation as a legislative workhorse, called the co-op idea "fuzzy" compared with a government-run option.

"We don't have any idea how (cooperatives) work in this context," Obey said Tuesday. "The problem is that you can't pass a concept."
