Obama accuses healthcare opponents of "an extraordinary lie" and of "bearing false witness"
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 05:42 PM by jefferson_dem
Obama has joined the health care call with religious leaders.

“The one thing that you all share is a moral conviction,” Obama said. “This debate over health care goes to the heart of who we are as American people.”

Obama hit the insurance companies, saying that no one in America should be “pushed to the edge of financial ruin” because of they get sick.

And he again brought up the “misinformation” about the plans: “There are some folks out there who are frankly bearing false witness,” he said.

The idea that reform will lead to death panels “is just an extraordinary lie,” he added.

Obama characterized health care as part of “an ethical and moral obligation … that we look out for one another” and said when it comes to health care “in the wealthiest nation on earth we are neglecting to live out that call.”

Debunking “fabrications” about his reform plans, Obama said: “You’ve heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion. Not true.”

Obama called on the leaders to help him get health care reform by knocking on doors to “spread the facts” and “speak the truth.”

He thanked them for being on the call then said, “bye-bye” and hung up. -- Carol E. Lee (5:35 p.m.)

1. Jesus healed the sick without asking if they had pre-existing conditions.

4. That would make a good protest sign
for one of those town hall meetings in some red district. Strap on your weapon if it is a Open Carry state. The combination should confuse the hell out of them.

I've always thought that commandment, "Though Shalt Not Bear False Witness" was one we should be using a whole lot more than we do. It pretty much covers the whole MO of the GOP.

7. And THIS occasion is why he wanted in tight with the faith based community...
Barack Obama is able to speak the language of morality to them authentically, I believe. He just called the Repub/corporatist opponents of HCR huge and unrepentant liars, and the fact that he has not said so before publicly lends his words that much more weight now.

I'm sure there will be other occasions that come along, when this connection will be helpful.

12. What better way to sell healthcare reform as a moral imperative
than by enlisting religious leaders?

People view their Reverends/Fathers/Pastors/whatever with great respect already.

8. This is a great argument -- it also shows that pigs like Limbaugh don't care about the sick, elderly
Because Obama is right to point out that in a civilized, caring society, a society in which these people dare to call themselves Christians, all members of the society, especially the sick and elderly (the most vulnerable), should be protected. Limbaugh and the other insurance whores like him don't give a sh*t about grandma and her prescriptions (as we all know. Limpballs only cares about his own prescriptions) or the guy who lost his job and then his house when his wife developed cancer and they had no coverage. Call these pigs out on the very foundations of their beliefs!

It is always amazing to me -- though I realize that I am being hopelessly naive -- that these people NEVER follow the example of Christ from the gospels. Here is a chance for them to reach out their hands to the sick and the needy. Instead they hold up signs with Obama depicted as Hitler. So disgusting it makes me sick.

10. Now if the blue dogs could find their own moral courage and conviction,
we should at the very least get a strong public option if not universal single payer coverage.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, jefferson_dem:thumbsup:

11. "Bearing false witness," eh?
Freepers are going to go nuts that Obama's throwing their "Christian" morality back in their faces.
