Here's calling up all good Americans to BOYCOTT Facebook advertisers!
How can we stand for this outrage! As sure as ACORN gives loans to the pimps of underage teenage girls, Facebook is obviously condoning nefarious activity directed toward the president. I'm outraged, I tell you. OUTRAGED! And I hope you've all signed up for my new Facebook group, "Screw Roman Polanski." I might need to work on the name some, though. Anyway, it's all about boycotting the movie studios and the directors who've worked with Polanski, as well as any book store or video outlet which condones Polanski's rape of young girls by selling or renting anything Polanski created. And don't get me started on the NFL, which hired Michael Vick. Or pro baseball; you know, the gamblers and steriod-freak club. By accepting the associations of people with, like, other people, you're accepting everything bad the other person, or group or club or school or church or corporation or whatever, has ever done!

Kinda like a modern-day GOP version of the old "you sleep with everyone your partner has slept with" warning. Next they'll extend to "if you breathe the same air {insert 'their' name here} breathes, you're a commie socialist facist atheist!"

3. Would it somehow make you "happy" if I didn't mention Polanski?
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 07:58 PM by Atman
Are you unable to see the larger issue? Seriously?

Do you somehow take my post to be in defense of ACORN? No? The NFL? No, why not? But I can see where you took offense. Rightly so...but wtf does that have to do with the issue of ACORN and SEIU and boycotts and all that bullshit?

We are in an INSANE time -- how have we allowed ourselves to get to the point where one word, one speech, even one "gotcha" association, can be cause for a blanket smear against an entire entity, an entire body of work or portfolio of good deeds? If you still think my post was about Polanski, maybe you need help. Your family, who has obviously associated with you over the years, is probably just as bad as you are. (Relax, just making a point! Really.) Just follow ALL the news, not just the story you're into at the moment.

All I'm saying is that it's dangerous for all of us if/when we get so eager to lump one and other into sub-groups of perceived evil just because of a chance (or set-up) encounter with a fake pimp or a sick fuck who fights dogs or rapes kids. But we seem to do it all the time.

5. FB wasn't condoning anything.
Just like the internet, FB is a tool. Filter the garbage out using hide and report illegal behavior.

6. Um...this is why I "love" DU...people really don't pay attention.

OF COURSE FB wasn't condoning anything! That's the whole damn point! But when ACORN gets scammed by a fake pimp, the entire organization has to be taken down because it apparently is all about making deals with fake pimps. "Six degrees..." The right is trying to bring Democrats down using this tactic. As with Obama and Rev. Right, it's suddenly as if YOU are individually responsible for the transgressions of every person you've ever known. It's bullshit.

So...given that we seem to like to link everyone to everything and everyone they've ever know, why aren't we screaming for a boycott of Facebook?

I'm NOT actually advocating that. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous it is (for lurking Freepers as much as anyone else) to say that just because A knew B, that B condoned everything A did. That's what the right wants us to believe...UNLESS, of course, the situation involves any of them or their associations.

7. Oh, we get it. Some of us even appreciate your efforts and nuance. HOWEVER,
our Nation's "daily talking points" are dictated to the USA M$M by FOX news.

Yes, dear fellow citizen, we're residing on "Animal Farm" and Frank Luntz is playing the role of "piggy." :wow: :silly:
