Andy Williams Thinks Obama Is A Marxist

September 29th, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT

From The Political Carnival, Andy Williams, of all people, is accusing President Obama of “following Marxist theory” and “wanting the country to fail.”
Williams, a lifelong Republican whose hits include Moon River and Music To Watch Girls By, told the Radio Times he thought Mr Obama wanted to turn the US into a “socialist country”.
The 81-year-old was a friend of the Kennedy family during the 1960s and was present at the Los Angeles rally where Robert F Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

13. Maybe it was because his wife (ex-wife) had just killed her lover
and he was trying to look all innocent and stuff. What is funny is that I don't think I have any of his albums but had/maybe still have Claudine Longet's. Just joking. He was divorced from her when the incident occurred and he stood by her side. She only spent 30 days in jail (at her convenience) and then married her defense lawyer.

"Howard Andrew "Andy" or "Paul" Williams (born December 3, 1927) is an American pop singer. Andy Williams has recorded 18 gold <1> and three platinum <2> certified albums. When Ronald Reagan was president, he declared Andy's voice to be "a national treasure". He had his own popular TV variety show from 1962–71. He also owns his own theater, the Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri."

"In the early 1970s, when the Nixon Administration attempted to deport John Lennon, Andy Williams was an outspoken defender of the Beatles right to stay in the United States."

"Williams was close friends with Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, campaigning for Kennedy '68 for President. Williams was present at the Ambassador Hotel when RFK was assassinated in June 1968. Williams solemnly sang "Battle Hymn of the Republic" at RFK's funeral, by request of widow Ethel. By August 1969, over a year after Bobby Kennedy's death, Andy and Claudine named their newborn son 'Bobby' Williams. The Williams' friendship with Ethel Kennedy has endured, with Andy even serving as escort to Ethel, during events in the 1970s. Although Williams was a friend of Bobby and Ethel Kennedy's, he said he is a lifelong Republican who grew up in Iowa singing in church choirs and feels right at home in Branson."

18. If he's a life-long Republican who came of political age in the 60s and 70s . . .
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 12:51 AM by MrModerate
Then the "modern" Republican party would kick him out as a loony left-winger.

But I guess he's redeemed himself with the Marxist twaddle (if that's even true).

25. He will be 72 in December and he lives in Branson.
That about says it all. Whether or not he said what they are saying or not, I don't know.

I know I have seen some showbiz people of my age and older get into the bat-sh*t crazy tv religion, getting more fanatic by the minute until I don't even understand who they have become. With this goes the right wing extremism that makes them seem even crazier.

Andy was a Reagan republican. Even though he was friends with Ethel Kennedy, that doesn't make much difference when you realize that Arnold is now a part of the Kennedy family. Also, many of Murdoch's friends think he is a liberal at heart and only conservative because it is good for business. Like the saying goes...Politics makes strange bedfellows.

17. Nothing racist /ageist about your statement is there? I don't care what
Andy Williams thinks and he is obviously idiotic IF he said such a thing but he is a legendary performer. If you don't realize that, your general knowledge is lacking.I find your"old white man on medicare' comment mocking, demeaning and downright nasty. My Dad was an old "white man on medicare" and guess what, so are a lot of loyal Democrats. Andy Williams MIGHT be a silly person but you are out of line IMHO.

I heard him say himself that he was NOT there, they were going to meet later AFTER the rally. Not that his being there is a big deal one way or the other but it shows how stories change to suit the teller about who they want to impress at the time.
