What can us "safe" staters do to help y'all in swing and red states?
Living in Jersey (which is supposedly in play, hahahaha), the electoral college makes me feel kind of like I'm twiddling my thumbs, although I'm working on registering new voters. I look at Ohio and Michigan and wish I had a relative who'd move there, LOL.

So is there any way for those of us in "safe" states to help everyone else? Beside sending money? I asked this awhile ago, and since we're down to it, thought I'd throw it out again.

1. Al Franken says you should move to Ohio.
If you do this and register by Oct. 1, you can vote there.

6. I Think TX is doing this in FL (by the repugs of course)
I see 10 times more Texas plates than any other state and it has consistantly increased since 1999 when I first noticed the explosion. After the 2000 election I got suspicious, and it has progressed to where I see about 1 Texas plate for every 10 FL plates ALL OVER THE STATE, not just in tourist areas (IE Leesburg, Dixie County, etc). One even went through a toll booth with a E-Pass, indicating residence (even though FL law says you have to get a FL tag after 10 days residency) By contrast, the next most common plate I see, GA (an ADJACENT state) occurs about once for every 50 or so FL plates. They are infiltrating us, I can feel it. However, the consensus among those with whom I associate are overwhelming Kerry supporters, but keep in mind that birds of a feather flock together, so that isnt too suprising and not a true idicator of the state of FL.

2. I was wondering the same thing here in CA

and I got hooked up with a group to make phone calls to undecideds in the swing states of Arizona and Nevada from my home office. There are also phone banks set up in various offices doing the same thing. A kind DUer posted the information I needed and I couldn't be happier. There's probably something similar in NJ.

3. You are not far from OH. Spend a weekend or two in OH
and help canvass for Kerry. I'm in NH & we get Mass dems up all the time, including today, in pouring rain, to canvass. (Side note, Thanks all you Mass Folks) Send letters to the editors of News papers in OH & MI, call anyone you know in OH or PA talk to them about the election. Call the Kerry folks in one of the states & see if you can phone bank from home for them. Trust me every little bit of help counts.

4. All I can suggest is phone-banking, although I know CA folk have
traveled here to AZ to campaign.

Regardless of what you may have heard, AZ is very much in play, IMHO.

8. People from Ca if you can get to anywhere in NV
Get there. There are people opening their homes to you. I volunteered and got "my mother in law". She's visiting for a week right in the middle of this. I told my husband he has got to entertain her, no golf. I'm up to my neck with the Kerry campaign and my own campaign for school board, though I think with the last letter I wrote to the editor and it was printed, I pretty much outed myself as a major Dem and this is a repuke county.

10. Nevada shouldn't be too hard, what with Yucca Mountain
Not as many electoral votes as we have here in AZ, but a good blue bet this year.

9. You are welcome to visit me in Ohio
I have a long list of calls that need to be made and doors that need to be knocked on. You will eat well; and I'll share my wine collection.

11. I've done letter-writing campaigns to unregistered voters (see
my sig line). I think MoveOn, the Dems, and some of the unions are running letter campaigns in swing states.

MMOB is trying to get the vote out with moms and especially single moms.

12. Fuck The Red States, We Don't Need Help Here...
HELP IN THE SWING STATES!!

We are working our asses off in the Red states, anyway...enough to make Bush have to spend time and money here!

It will be far better for y'all safe staters to just help in the swing states...leve the Red State shit to us who are stuck in Red-State shitholes...

I'm fortunate to live in a very blue area of Texas, (Austin) but this is definitely a Red state. I'll still fight my ass off to turn Texas blue again...but, for now, I'd rather see y'all's spare energy spent in states we actually have a chance at winning.

Let us red-state denizens beat our heads against the brick walls...that is what we are here for.

13. I know
I beleive that the entire media is being controlled by conservatives, and we are getting polls from Gallop done for media outlets and other mediasources showing thatBush is ahead in order to influence undecided voters that Kerry does not stand a chance. I look at states like Jersey, which are obviously blue, and find that the polls showing BUhs either leading or cattching up are designed to try to lead the undecided. Bad news. By November, Bush ,if he wins will do a massive call up of the remaining National Guard trrops to send into Iraq. After inauguaration day, the draft reinstated. Real problems at that point.

up this swing state for Kerry! Although, if yard signs were polls, Kerry would be up on Bush by a 10 to 1 margin.

15. 92% Closely Following News from Iraq
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 07:18 PM by struggle4progress
<snip> Forty-five percent (45%) of Americans say that, in the long run, our mission in Iraq will be considered a success. Forty-one percent (41%) disagree and say it will be considered a failure. <snip>

* Those who believe Iraq will be judged a success favor Bush by an 89% to 7% margin.

* Those who believe Iraq will be judged a failure prefer Kerry by an 83% to 9% margin. Among this group, 5% say they will vote for some other candidate.

This confirms other data suggesting that events in Iraq remain the most important factor of Election 2004.

Maybe that might give you some ideas ...
