Teabaggers and Birthers Make Sharpton Look Miniscule in Comparison
I know this is kinda late, but I was watching the Sharpton/Buchanan debate last night and started thinking back to the days when guys like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were "fringe" and "controversial." The election of Barack Obama has since made these two figures look like centrist compared to the hatred and vitriol that comes from the Right. Sharpton could actually be taking a much more aggressive approach if he really wanted to. He's been provided tons of material ever since the election. Even though certain forces have gone into overdrive in an attempt to play down the racial element of the attacks on Obama...it's not a solid defense by any means. The other night, it looked like Matthews and Buchanan were teaming up for a second, then it dawned on me...the problem is the double-standard. Birthers and Teabaggers should be treated the same way Jackson and Sharpton have been treated...but they're not. And what makes it really bad is that the vitriol from the Right is far worse than anything those two have ever said! The comments pale in comparison. I know Sharpton hasn't always got it right. Jena 6 was a good decision, but he's made some bad ones too. It's funny how the MSM gives haters on the Right the time of day. Yet, Dems were protesting and organizing for 8 years under Bush and we were flat out ignored. Healthcare protests, etc still are being ignored right now. What is the MSMs obsession with the Right and propping up their radicals?
