The real nightmare. "They" sabotage the internet and blame terrorists.

The net is their biggest threat to their agenda. I sound so paranoid. But what would happen if come election night, there was widespread BBV fraud and the internet went offline, or at least a chunk of it did? Bush would be installed without a whimper. Online communities are way more fragile than we think. I mean how would anyone get a reality check or communicate?
(on edit) shortwave radio?

1. Na... The Infrastructure Of The Interent...
(with the exception of the root DNS servers) is too diffuse. I don't think it would last more than a couple of days.

8. Sorry if it sounds perposterous. I am not to technically savvy.
The net is the only the only possible equalizer, So many are still in a stupor. Sure, more young folks, minorities, dems are engaged than ever but still, so many are asleep, worn down, jaded or just don't care. Half my family and many friends are disengaged. Chatrooms could give two shits about this election. How many times does "I'm leaving the country" appear on DU boards? I never dreamed fascism could be so close to having such a foothold in our government. Sealing records. Secrecy at the hightest levels. No due process. Eroding freedoms. Media control. Preemptive war. Hate speeches. Prison Culture. If Washington were alive he'd start a revolution.

12. Fortunately we are not the only ones that depend on the Internet
All banking and most businesses in this country would no longer function very well without it.

So if they wanted to 'shut down' the internet, the huge negative impact that would have on commerce, would make them turn it back on very quickly.

However, cyberattacks on specific sites is the more likely issue we will be dealing with in the near future.

I am sure there will be more than a few hackers and government agents trying to screw with sites like DU.
