Patience grasshoppers-Leader Reid and President Obama know what they're doing on health care
Edited on Tue Oct-27-09 03:57 PM by Politics_Guy25
I freaked out over the Lieberman announcement as well but a couple of hours of perspective calmed me down. Remember, President Obama would not be the president of the United States if he was incompetent or could be rick-rolled. Remember all the times that he was left for dead, after Sarah Palin, after Reverend Wright, after his performances in the intial primary debates. Each time, he rose like a phoenix from the ashes even stronger. The (our) President knows that meaningful health care reform and ending unemployment are the critical tests to which he and his party will be judged in 2010 and 2012. He won't let it all come apart on health care. Not now, not this time, to err borrow a phrase. Also, we have one of the most competent senate/house leadership teams in history. Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not only go down as the first female speaker but probably one of the more effective ones in modern times, ala Samuel Rayburn, Tiff O'Neil, etc. Her strength and determination to fight for what is just will be legendary. She too knows what is at stake. She'll see to it that health reform is passed and is a good bill. Lastly, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would not be where he is today without some pretty amazing poltiical skills. He'll shepherd this through the senate and will look like a genius once final passage is achieved. This time, Obama/Pelosi/Reid won't let us down. They won't. Need an example? The stimulus bill was left for dead in February. It too arose from the ashes and survived.

Keep the faith alive. Remember, we have no clue what Lieberman is angling for when he threatens a fillibuster. We have no idea of the internal games going on behind the closed doors of the senate but one thing I do know is that the Obama/Reid/Pelosi team won't let this fail. Not now. Not ever.

Step back, look at the broad scheme of things, the fact that for the first time in American history, all 5 congressional committees tasked to regulate health reform have passed major reform. We're on track. Just like everything else about the Obama ascent, it won't be easy but it will be done. "Yes we can."

It all comes down to this: Do you trust President Barack Obama? If you do, you have your answer. Also, the mere fact that the bill that is going to be debated on the senate floor has the robust HELP option was unthinkable weeks ago. Look where it has come.

Patience grasshoppers. Patience.

5. Lieberman is going to trade his vote for the US Ambassador to Israel job
He knows that his senatorial career is over and unless he plans on becoming a lobbyist for pharmaceutical and healthcare corporations like his wife, that is the job he wants.

7. LOL! Reid is a genius?? I want some of what you're smokin.
Reid has been a miserable failure as leader, and I wouldn't blindly trust any politician - including Obama. Trust, hope, faith...pffft! Open your eyes!

11. Let Me Tell You What's Going To Happen
Edited on Tue Oct-27-09 05:29 PM by Beetwasher
Obama is going to step in behind the scenes and remind Wormtongue That He Is A Coward And that O is the Big Dog. Wormtongue will slither away having accepted some meaningless crumb and Reid will be given all the credit. The PO will remain intact.

12. I have NO doubt in various strategy sessions with the WH and DEMS in Congress...
there would be discussion on the likely tactics of people like Lieberman, Snow, etc, at any point during the process and have plans to deal with the problem accordingly.

DUers have long asked the what if questions here so it stands to even much greater reason the actions of various players such as Lieberman are NO surprise, have been expected and the default plan is in play, imo.

17. I agree with you. But a week ago on DU you'd think the President hates America.
Obama is way too clever and analytical not to realize the political game at hand. He wants to get things done and will do what is necessary. I liked how Reid brushed off Lieberman like a pesky mosquitoe when it comes down to if he's worried. No their not worried because they were probably expecting this...if not from Lieberman at least from the other clowns.
