Poll: Voters Uneasy About Kerry in Crisis

WASHINGTON - Voters are uneasy about Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s ability to handle an international crisis and want to learn more about his plans for the future, a new poll found.

Bush led Kerry 50 percent to 41 percent while independent Ralph Nader (news - web sites) had 3 percent in the CBS News-New York Times poll of registered voters released Friday night.

Polls in the last week have ranged from a close presidential race to a 14-point Bush advantage. But the CBS-Times poll indicated weaknesses in Kerry's candidacy that could threaten his chances in the November election.

The poll found that voters are uneasy about his abilities in an international crisis by 60 percent to 32 percent. And a majority say Kerry is spending too much time talking about the past and think he's spending more time attacking Bush than explaining what he would do.

The poll reflected the views of 1,088 registered voters interviewed Sept. 12-16 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

****************

....and voters think a guy who sits for 7 minutes as an attack is going on is "stronger"????? I guess they all got those HERO photos of Bush on AF One on the phone.....

Note the sampling method....

PS....while we know the polling can be skewed by sampling methods, what about the questions being asked???? Food for thought....

1. More of the "Kerry is wrong no matter what he talks about" meme
This is just baloney.

4. The Polling Pattern Is Clear
Any poll affiliated with one of the Big Media pardners are going to work the numbers and the questions to make it appear as if Bush is pulling away -- while the vast majority of OTHER polls reflect a much closer, nip-and-tuck story.

Just expect it and work on.

9. Actually, I haven't seen a poll that favors Kerry in a crisis situation.
Regardless of who's done the polling. Polls like this are valuable because they can give us an idea of Kerry's percieved strengts and weaknesses. That information is good to have.

5. It is impossible for Kerry to get on the news unless he is attacking.
If he tries to focus on the issues the press doesn't cover him and then say that no one knows anything about him. It's a catch 22.

7. It's not about Bush sitting for 7 minutes. It's about us being attacked
on his watch. And, now, he has the nerve to say he will keep us safe from another attack? Keeping us safe from the first one might have been nice.

8. Yup
In this poll ten percent more Republicans are polled, and even four percent more independents are polled than Democrats.

10. "Good in a crisis" is just polling shorthand for..
..."likely to kill swarthies who worship the wrong God".

Bush does have a track record on this point, after all, and Kerry doesn't. It's been thirty-plus years since Kerry killed a pagan.

Maybe what Kerry needs to vault back into the lead in this race is to announce that he and John Edwards are going to truck-bomb a mosque someplace.

Oh, and polling questions that ask about 'tough on terror' are actually asking "which candidate is more likely to use the Constitution as rolling paper?"

12. I really want Kerry to do what he did yesterday (?) when he asked that
whole series of questions, including whether Bush read the papers...re: the intelligence report that Bush seems to be ignoring, but which Hagel has gone ballistic on...

Really...he has to keep repeating this!! Today he's on the draft....please, go back to this intelligence report and the Iraq disaster and bring up Hagel departing from Bushscript.....

13. THIS is ALL you're going to see til the end of the election
the unable to handle himself in a crisis BS, and the Orwellian blanket job that all is well/swell (well, swell!) in Iraq, despite the evidence of EVERYBODY's lyin' eyes

this has the potential to be VERY bad
