Nader blasts Edwards, Bush, Kerry during campaign stop

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Conceding he will not win the November presidential election, Ralph Nader continued Thursday attacking other candidates in the race including "sniveling coward" John Edwards.

Nader derided Edwards, the Democrats' vice presidential candidate, for not attacking Vice President Dick Cheney for his stance in favor of limiting awards in medical malpractice lawsuits during the Edwards-Cheney debate Tuesday night.

When asked if he thought there is a single state he could carry in November, Nader said: "Of course not, the system is rigged."

"Our two-party electoral dictatorship, the Democrat-Republican party, works overtime to make sure it has no competition to its surrender of our national government to the big corporations who have turned Washington D.C. into corporate occupied territory," Nader said before addressing a mostly college-age crowd of about 200 just a short distance from the state Capitol.

Edwards did stand up to Cheney. He mentioned Valerie Lakey and how she could be saved by a two cent screw but the company didn't want to spend the money. And the company knew their product wasn't safe. He also mentioned that medical malpractice insurance is one-half of one percent of medical costs.

But when Cheney responded and brought up the jobs lost due to product liability and attacked Edwards on taxes, Edwards only had 30 seconds to respond. He couldn't respond to the taxes and ask Cheney why he didn't give a crap about Valerie Lakey. It's too bad there wasn't more time, but Edwards did miscalculate attacking Halliburton again (IMO) - he let Cheney shift the debate from being about companies screwing (no pun intended) the people to who was better at taking advantage of tax loopholes. He should have fired back. I think anyone with a heart (well, there goes Dick Cheney) would hear Valerie Lakey's story (I know I cried when I read it in "Four Trials") and think Edwards has the right idea on tort reform, that we should never limit real victim's ability to recover, but stop the frivolous ones.
