What do ya'll think of Mayor Walt Maddox of Tuscaloosa?
I don't really know much about him. The paper really doesn't tell me anything about the mayor.

On the surface, he seems about as progressive as we could hope for. Like I said, I know virtually nothing about the man.

Except that he is the first mayor that is younger than I am. :(

:hi:

1. I like him...
He is very accessible to the public (either by phone, email or in person) and seems to care about this community a great deal. I can say that he made a visit to my house when I contacted him concerning some street drainage issues and spent a good deal of time with my other half listening to our concerns.

2. wow, that sounds pretty good
A personal visit from the mayor over drainage issues. That's cool! I can't vote for mayor, because I'm outside the city limits, but the mayor of Tuscaloosa does have a direct impact on my life, so it's encouraging that the mayor would be so hands-on, and in touch with the public. Thanks for the report!

3. I was just Googling him to find out.
After seeing him on TV, my interest was piqued. His party affiliation isn't readily available ... is the mayor a "non-partisan" office? (That'd be strange, imho, for Alabama.) His bio reads like a progressive, left-of-center politicians ... quite "liberal" for the region, imho. I have to assume, then, he's a Democrat? (Richard Shelby didn't seem too 'warm' towards him, so I'm pretty confident I'm making an accurate assumption.)

5. Tuscaloosa city elections are, in fact, non-partisan
The mayor is a Democrat, I have learned since my original post, but not in the official electoral sense.

4. i like him....
He seems pretty cool. He is very collected which is something we need. Just trying to get a relative out of the hardest hit area was a hassle but he was so nice.

6. I agree
Walt Maddox is a very good mayor. I used to sort of dislike him, but I think it was because I kept confusing him for the other very young member of the city council.

7. I agree
The challenges facing the Mayor and council are beyond belief. Aside from search and rescue and getting roads open, how to deal with the loss of the environmental services dept and all the garbage and trash removal trucks and thus the tons of spoiled food that will soon be dumped into garbage containers is a huge public health problem. Our plan is to mark all wasted food products and freeze in a section of our deep freeze till we learn of a plan to pick up garbage.

8. I didn't even think of that
I don't currently have a deep freezer. I just emptied out the little freezer atop my fridge. It was a whole chicken, a small steak, a couple of hamburger patties, and a box of pizza rolls.

On the bright side, I'm glad you didn't leave us for good. :hi:

10. I think he's a Dem. Check his bio (link).

He was a Field Director for the AEA.
Sio I'm guessing he's a Democrat.
Very impressive resume'.
