I was a Deke at Alabama in the early 60s. Got an email this morning. Say what you will about the 'fraternity culture', these young men make me proud to be even a little bit associated with them.
"Greek Community,
Thank you for your tireless help today. Together we made over 3,500 lunches and dinners, 150 volunteers cooked and distributed food, and we donated over 2,000 lbs. of canned foods.
TOMORROW WE WILL NEED MANPOWER.
I am happy to report that Delta Kappa Epsilon's Rampant Lion Foundation has created the UA Greek Relief Fund which sponsoring tomorrow's food distribution activities and will be providing food for our team to prepare. This will allow us to greatly expand our efforts. However, we will need more manpower and more kitchens to cook in. If we can cook in your fraternity or sorority kitchen tomorrow or if you can bring a grill to the back yard of the DKE House, please contact Patrick Morris immediately (205) 540-0665.
Tomorrow, we will prepare and distribute food again, but in addition to that, we will expand our efforts by collecting additional supplies needed for the relief effort. If your house was unable to deliver your house's food today, please bring your food tomorrow, or let us know, and we'll come pick up the food for you.
Saturday's Schedule: 9:30 - We will begin to taking food and supplies donations at the DKE House 10:30 - Cooking will begin and we will need volunteers to help prepare food. Come to the DKE House for details. 11:00 - We will need volunteers to help drive food and supplies. Send them to the DKE House.
