Diane Benson is running for lieutenant governor.
She just announced today at the Bartlett Club. She stated that although she REALLY wanted to take Don's seat, after the last two campaigns, the financial considerations are just too overwhelming. After much thought, she has decided to run for lite guv. She has the support of all of the gubernatorial candidates. As far as I know, she is the only Democrat who has announced for lieutenant.

1. Well, I hope the regular Dems don't once again obsess on stopping her
I had kind of hoped, if she was going to run again, that she'd take on Lisa. But I suspect Senator Princess is being given a free ride this year.

2. People up here are making a big deal

about her "lack of experience," as if holding a city council position or being on the school board is a prerequisite for running for higher office. Diane has done so many good civic-minded things over the course of her life, and these people want to discount her, belittle her. I admire her so much for standing up to them and continuing to press her message. She is a real fighter, and I feel very honored to know her.

Lieutenant Governor might be a good place for her to show that she's up to the job, if people will give her a chance. My understanding is that all of the Democrats running for governor are supporting her candidacy, so that's a good start.

5. I see. Do you have a Lt. Gov. now?
If not, who is next in line for governor?

6. We do.
The lt. guv is Craig Campbell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Campbell_(politician) If I remember right, Sarah appointed him to be the replacement lieutenant governor when Sean Parnell became governor in July after her old buddy Joe Schmidt, who had been next in line, declined.
