1. Now, THAT'S funny.

I never understood how the man could so humiliate himself by running those ads. He makes Seinfeld's Elaine look like Ginger Rogers.

2. I suppose he figures nothing is shameful if it brings in the bucks.

Those spots are in the tradition of the "great bad ads" that were done by people on the East Coast(Sadler, weirdly enough, is from New Jersey)like "Crazy Eddie" and and on the West Coast by guys like "MadMan Muntz" and Cal Worthington(yes, THAT Cal Worthington)who used to stand on his head in the commercials.

3. I remember Cal Worthington

in Southern California in the very early '70s. I couldn't believe it when I came up here and he was here, too. Just my luck.

6. Interesting characters...

There's another interesting characteristic about people like Worthington and Sadler (whackos who make their own goofy commercials).

I worked in the technical end of radio/television in the middle 1960's in Tucson AZ. We had guys like those two (I can't remember their names, but one who sold tires no less, is prominent in my memory). It was odd how it worked when taping that kind of a commercial, because they just aren't like other people. With professional ad agency people we knew what kind of things they liked or didn't like (each agency was different), and at the end of a "take", everybody was usually aware of whether it was a good one or not. The production crew might not be able to tell which of the best 2 or 3 they'd buy, but we could pick which 2 or 3 they would consider. With most "amateurs", we could tell exactly what they'd accept, and maybe even point out reasons they should reject it and try again.

With guys like Sadler and Worthington... nobody ever figured out what it was they based their decisions on. They would reject a take that everyone else thought was perfect. They would accept takes that nobody else would have touched, due to technical flaws, with a ten foot pole. And I mean, we were well aware of this and made a game out of trying to decide what in the heck it was that each of these guys were looking for; but nobody I know ever picked it up.

9. All isn't well by half, my friend.

I got hired for a a good job, then abruptly laid off the week before Christmas when the Army closed the dining facility. So we're once again facing either bankruptcy or foreclosure. Oh well, I want out of this money pit of a house quite badly anyway - and a little more "off the grid" than what we are now.

So I'm job hunting, food scrounging, collector-avoiding and depressed by it!

But it's been a warmish winter with great snow; the Yukon Quest is coming up; spring is not TOO far away and all the kitties and my wonderful spouse are healthy. So it could be worse.

10. Good Morning!

I've had a little experience with both men...Cal is interesting...but an ass...and very, very old now.

Sadler is a prince. A hell of a nice guy and very generous.

Their commercials are very unique which is a good thing in this ocean of white noise that we call the media.

12. I actually LIKE Ted Sadler(so does Mr. Whitekeys, who put him in his "Alaska History" dvd.)

It just amazes me that things that are that silly work so well.
