Holy Crap! Lisa Murkowski is LOSING to the Tea Party whackjob!

If Miller pulls this off...we have two and half-months to build support for Scott McAdams, the Democratic candidate, or risk having our state be seen as a national embarassment.

3. Bad news for Alaska, and also for GOP incumbent Senators

At 8:20 AM, East Coast time, and with 429 out of the 438 districts reporting, Miller leads Murkowski by 2.09%, which translates to about 2,000 votes. In my experience, it’s near impossible for the absentee ballot count to overcome a 2 percent lead. A Murkowski loss will put the fear of god into old line Republicans and their sponsors/donors/corporate masters. Bad news for Alaskans, but good news for the Democrats because these extreme/Tea Party backed politicians will throw the GOP Senate caucus into disarray with much infighting.

4. Miller/McAdams

There are three main reasons that we have lost our democracy: monopolized media, unlimited amount of money in politics, and the corporate control of our voting booths. The monopolized media ensures that those who support Miller (or McAdams for that matter) are poorly informed. People do not seem to be able to tell the difference between a wedge issue and real issue. Dems are still socialists, and budget-busters. Republicans defend freedom and the constitution. The Tea Party which supported Miller is “grass roots” belying the money sponsored by the billionaire Koch brothers and pushed by Dick Army. The media encourages voters to vote their fears rather than their hopes.
With the Citizen’s United case, the unlimited amounts of money are now officially sanctioned. We can no longer ignore or deny this eroding factor. It will be interesting to see how much money the corporations and other deep pockets spend on the rest of this campaign. It also will be interesting to see who gets the money.
Lastly, considering that corporations rather than the voters themselves now control our ballot box, can we be sure that the election results are valid? If not, then, the epic struggles portrayed in the media is just nothing more than theater.

11. Good news for Alaskans, actually,

because Scott McAdams has a much better chance of defeating Joe Miller than he would have had against Lisa Murkowski. Most people up here aren't teabaggers, and the more they learn about Miller, the less attracted to him they will be. Scott McAdams is moderate, likeable, a good speaker, and is a "real" Alaskan, which will have a great deal of appeal.

You have to remember also that only 26% or so of the electorate turned out for this primary, and many voted because of the "parental consent" ballot bait, which skewed the primary to the right. Assuming that two-thirds of that 26% took Republican ballots, Miller in reality only got about 1 in 10 of the potential general election votes. A poll conducted a few days ago, before the "oldest profession" tweet, showed McAdams, with almost no statewide name recognition, only 9 points behind Miller. Lisa's supporters are incensed at the way she has been treated during this campaign, about the tweet, about the paranoia and accusations, and they may vote against Miller for revenge or because they correctly recognize what a divisive and ineffective senator he would be. Again, McAdams is likeable and has cross-party appeal, much like Diane Benson. And Lisa herself used to be a moderate before she sold out to the corporate interests.

I feel extremely hopeful about this election. A money infusion to allow McAdams to travel around the state and get to know people, advertise and get his message out would almost certainly guarantee his victory.

Sorry. I kid, I kid. I lived in Alaska for a few years and loved it - the land, the people, the freedom. All of it. I have faith that the AK Dems will get their act together and defeat the teabaggers. Alaskans are conservative, but they aren't stupid. At least that's what I hope.

Murkowski losing is a shocker... but possibly the opening we need to get 2 Democratic Senators from Alaska. Wouldn't THAT be something??

7. I don't feel bad that Lisa Murkowski lost.

I was the one who coined the term "Senator Princess" to describe how she got the job.

My point is that it's scary as hell that Miller won...and now, we have to work like hell to elect Scott McAdams in the fall.

I believe the Alaska dems can get it done. And I believe in ALL Alaskans enough that they won't send some teabagger to the Senate. Maybe I'm wrong. But I hope not.

I think as people see more of these candidates in the coming months, Scott McAdams will clearly be the more sensible choice. He just needs the money to conduct an effective campaign, because the Tea Party Express and probably SarahPAC will be throwing millions to Miller.

We can't let them buy this election.
