On the proposed extension of the "Bush Tax Cuts"
I would recommend that everyone reading this contact your senators and reps and urge them to vigorously NOT to support the proposal. This is yet another example of the wholesale transfer of the public largess into the private corporate hands; from the taxes, to the estate tax relief, to the diminution of the health of the SS system. Geez! Will we ever learn! Sen. Murkowski doesn't know how she will finally vote, it depends on the final bill. (Big surprise! Ask her why she does not support our elderly.) Sen Begich feels that the tax extension should only apply to incomes below 250 K (I urged him to vigorously support the efforts of Sen Sanders to stop this theft; I fear he won't support Sen Sanders... no courage) and Con. Young thinks that during a recession is not the time to raise anyone's taxes. (Simple bumper sticker justification) Please indicate the reactions you get on this forum. Thanks.

1. 2Lib, did you know that Begich was one of eight senators,
including Senator Boxer and Sen. Sherrod Brown, opposing Obama's plan? You can read about it here: http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2010/12/mark-begich-signs-on-with-bernie.html

I'm as shocked as anyone.

2. Thank You
I had heard a snippet about his support of Sander's opposition. When I called Sen Begich's office, this was not made clear. I hope that now he continues to "vigorously" support progressive ideals. We can keep encouraging him. I think he is wrong to do his job based on what he "thinks" the Alaska politics are; ie. Conservative. Without a strong push on his part from the progressive angle, he has little chance of re-election; if that is his goal. If his goal is to represent doing what is "right", without regard to future elections, then he is on the right track. As surprised as I am at his support of Sanders, I need to reinforce this stance and hope he continues.
