SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Many see it as Arizona's golden ticket -- The Fiesta Bowl. It's a longtime tradition and a fat moneymaker for the state.
Now, it's a tarnished mess.
The bowl's board of directors voted unanimously to fire longtime CEO and President John Junker after reviewing the findings of a five-month investigation by the board's independent special committee.
...
Among the committee's findings:
•$46,500 went to politicians as alleged illegal campaign contributions.
•Trips for groups of politicians. One trip cost $65,000 and sent politicians, lobbyists and their families to Boston for a football game.
•State Sen. Russell Pearce enjoyed seats worth $4,060 at the USC-Ohio State game in 2008 in Los Angeles.
•Over a 10-year period, Junker charged $4.8 million to a Fiesta Bowl credit card.
•$110,000 spent at a charity auction for a golfing trip.
•$33,000 on Junker's 50th birthday party at Pebble Beach.
•Junker even spent $1,200 on a tab at a strip club in Phoenix -- all charged to the Fiesta Bowl.
