Cunningham expected to plead guilty in federal probe

Just out in the Union Tribune a short time ago. Looks like Randy "Duke" Cunningham may plead guilty to criminal charges in the federal probe. If he does so, it should be a rallying point for all of us to write letters to the editor, etc. DEMANDING that he resign now, so that we can get a special election going to replace him. That's Francine Busby's best shot at taking his seat in the house, where there is no primary or runoff, but a win possible by plurality. Republicans haven't unified behind one candidate yet, and therefore, I think it would really be an optimal chance for us to get another Dem rep down here, and correct the problems that this last special election had for progressives here in San Diego! I'll also put this in LBN if noone has yet.

Stay tuned!

Cunningham expected to plead guilty in federal probe

UNION-TRIBUNE BREAKING NEWS TEAM

8:51 a.m. November 28, 2005

SAN DIEGO – Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham is expected to plead guilty to criminal charges in a hearing in federal court Monday morning.

The U.S. Attorney's office in San Diego announced Monday that there will be a hearing in the case at 9 a.m. before U.S. District Court Judge Larry Alan Burns and that it is to be followed by a news conference by San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam.

Cunningham's attorney issued an advisory saying the eight-term Republican congressman planned to address "pending legal proceedings" after the hearing.

Cunningham has been under investigation for months for his ties to defense contractors and their officials.
