Tri-Valley HeraldLong Beach — A Tracy city councilwoman who is vying to become mayor is taking a page from John McCain's handbook.
Evelyn Tolbert said she was suspending her campaign for the rest of this week and much of next week while she's representing the city during the general session of the League of California Cities 110th Annual Conference.
Tolbert said issues being discussed at the conference include a plan to divert water around the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the current foreclosure crises and how local air-quality control districts are formed.
"I thought this conference, more than a few that I have attended in the past, was going to be critical to Tracy's future," said Tolbert, who's running for mayor against incumbent Brent Ives and Celeste Garamendi. "I've suspended my campaign for the week, and that has pushed everything else back on the calendar. I won't be able to precinct walk."
