Bank / Credit Union Choices
After seeing that Bank of America gave $250,000 to Bush's inauguration party, I'm ready to pull all of my money out. I can't imagine that any of the big banks are really on our side. Apparently, even some credit unions lean Republican.

Any suggestions out there? I think I've read something positive here about the Golden 1 Credit Union.

Thanks for your opinions.

1. Which is why we need to start up 'local currencies'
as the E. F. Schumacher Society envisions.

Globalized banks take local money and shoots it to globalized projects that no longer really benefits the locality ! Keeping capital 'at home' keeps local businesses from going under...

2. Join a credit union
If you have the opportunity to join a credit union, do it! I love my credit union. They are friendier, don't charge as much, don't hold my money as long, are personally responsive to me, and all in all MUCH more desirable places to do business with than a bank. They don't have all the regualtions banks are subject to so they are much easier to deal with but offer all the same services and assurrances.

The one thing they don't have is as many convennient locations. But what they DO have is a network of credit union service centers so that you can do business from many locations across the country. If you need access from international locations you'll have to talk to them about that, it's something I don't know about.

I loooovvee my credit union! I'll never use a bank again if I can help it.

3. thanks
Thank you for your endorsement of credit unions. :) There are many here in San Francisco, although I've noticed that some of them do business with "right-wing" insurance companies such as AFLAC. Oh well - it's hard to be completely "pure" when it comes to doing business in the U.S.
