AAR on 760 KKZN
http://www.760thezone.com/main.html

The schedule of AAR folks is all chopped up. Mondays are even different from the rest of the weekdays. And Mike Malloy isn't even in the lineup. I suppose changing their business model gives them a chance for wider exposure. But except for Franken's time slot, the rest doesn't work for me. I hate to be an "ingrate" but my initial reaction is - Phooey.

And who is Phile Hendrie? I don't think I've ever streamed his program online.

1. Phil Hendrie is a right winger who plays various weirdos to get callers
pissed off.

He is pretty good at his performance art, but hardly progressive.

2. San Diego did the same
I got Franken, and Rahndi on tape delay, after that forget it.... I admit Shultz is ok when driving across town

What I think is going on is the stations are going easy and malloy is very explosive for these areas. I'd rather have him but... now the local affiliate is testing the waters with the best of Malloy during the weekend.

I just turn the radio for the franken show (Them important ratings) and then go back to streaming

3. Patience... At least we have our foot in the door
Maybe we can get them to boot Phil Hendrie later. But, I agree it may be smart to get a start absent Mike Malloy. His recent comments on how McCain's military service (specifically his service) "was cowardly" (see recent posts) would go over here very badly--even among Dems/Progressives. Hell, I was offended by it.

I'm not too sure about Ed Schultz either--given his attacks on Randi Rhodes. While I'm not a vehement RR supporter, I just can't see our liberal radio hosts going after each other and his comments were really horrible as reported here. Perhaps others can indicate if he ever clarified his statements or apologized?

5. Nope - no patience here
Looking at the schedule we have, it's obvious that it isn't set up to promote listener loyalty. Most AAR programming is not live and the Monday schedule is different from Tues - Friday. Seems like a recipe for failure to me. Phil Hendrie has nothing to with Progressive thinking, as another DUer posted. As for folks not being able to handle Malloy - well, they wouldn't listen to him anyway.

So, I took that DUer's advice and sent the program director a note via the local station web site. Expressed my thinking and let them know that the Franken show was the only one I'd listen to via the local station. I'm going to Radio Shack and getting set up with Sirius satellite. Radio Shack will know that I shopped there because they advertise on AAR and chose Sirius over XM because Sirius carries AAR intact.

I can understand your feelings on the matter. But I can't find it in me to be patient with Clear Channel. This programming is supposed to draw progressives and get our purchasing dollars. I won't be patient with crumbs. Guess you might say "I'm mad as hell and I won't take it anymore!".

6. Actually, it i only the overnight schedule that is different M versus T-FR
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 12:40 PM by hlthe2b
They are identical from 7AM to Midnight. At least it gives options when you are riding around in your car or out with a walkman and don't have to pay for satellite. Yes, I'll take what I can get at this point and try to influence change over time. If we don't support the station, it will only go to another conservative diatribe and we lose out totally. I can't see that as advantageous.

7. they aren't identical 7 am to midnight
ed schultz pushes randi and majority report out of their live time slots. randi is piecemeal. monday is not the same as the rest of the week and malloy is not even on the schedule. franken appears to be the only show that's broadcast live.

my thinking is to let the station know that this isn't acceptable to me and they won't earn my spending dollars the way it is. i'm the consumer and i'm in charge of where i spend. i don't accept crumbs that are set up for failure in the long run.

8. Oh, I meant the schedule within 760 was the same (consistent) 7-MN
Not, that it wasn't different from AAR streams. It definitely is very different and I am disappointed that it is.

I'm not interested in satellite, since I'm either on a computer or out where the various receivers would not be portable enough. I need a walkman. Though I did look at the new XM device that has a battery pack, people tell me that reception is still iffy with it and you sort of look dorky with the battery pack slung over the shoulder like a guerilla's bullet sling from the 1800s. Besides XM doesn't get half the AAR nor NPR anyway.

I'll be interested to hear if you get a response from 760 program management. I never got the email notification of the new format, even though I signed up. Did you?

9. Sorry for taking so long to respond
We've been out shopping. Still no reponse from the station. I don't expect to hear back very soon since today is the launch of the new format. Maybe it'll take a few days at least. I'll post when I receive an email.

That battery pack for XM does sound cumbersome!

I was a bit surprised at their commercials this AM though.

13. I thought Phil Henry was on 630 KHOW?
He was on after Redmond (apologist) and Newman (redneck mouth breather). Who is he pre-empting? Why is this lug nut even on a station for liberals anyway?

15. Picked it Up Fine in Pueblo West This Morning
Though it was drown out when I was going to the store last night - they must cut back their power at night, or other stations on their frequency creep in.

But I heard the tail end of Randi Rhodes's rerun from yesterday before 7, and Morning Sedition after that on my way to Colorado Springs. I'll catch some of Al Franken when I'm out at lunchtime.

17. Randi Rhodes
The only one I get to hearis Randi on my way home. She is pretty funny, and I have got a couple of friends to give them a chance.

I did get to listen to Janeanne Garofalo during the Republican convention by using the Air America website. For people having problems with 760, try that.
