Why does Colorada Dem-one of two Hispanic Senators-OK Roberts Civil Rights
Record? Is Salazar pretending that he does not know that Roberts has been criticized for his civil rights record?

Roberts has solid support as final debate begins
By Kathy Kiely, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — John Roberts appears to have at least 64 votes, a clear Senate majority, for confirmation as the nation's next chief justice after Sen. Ken Salazar, a Colorado Democrat, announced Sunday that he will back President Bush's nominee.

4. Wow...
I was just saying that last night.
It's starting to look a lot like we can't depend on Salazar.

Shouldn't we be able to count on a Dem to vote our side of the issues? It's not like this was something IMPORTANT or anything...

What a bum.

18. I don't have to say I told you so.
I didn't support Salazar because I was *afraid* this shit was going to happen. I supported Mike Miles and still do.

As you can see, this is the result of the state party's stupidity on ignoring Mike Mile's grassroots hardwork and propping up an AG that would have been a better Governor than a Senator, IMHO.

And yes, Mike Miles would have defeated Coors, and would be the *original* Paul Hackett.

2. Salazar is a horrid disappointment.
He has basically been DLC through and through. There are days I wonder if he really meant to run as a Repuke.

3. I regret putting his sign in my yard last summer
& sending him money.

The only thing I think he has voted Dem on is ANWAR. Everything else has been repuke/DLC.

5. Don't beat yourself up over it.
What are you supposed to do when they lie to you? Just keep writing and phoning his office. I have no connection to CO politicians except that Salazar and I happen to be alums of the same college. That doesn't count for much when I want to vent my rage at him.

8. For once, I agree, our strategy worked
We managed to win one election that year (Salazar over Coors) where the "Yeah, but look at the other guy!" strategy paid off. :)

I'd still like to see a little more leftishness to the guy ... more like his brother, maybe.
But yeah, he's no Coors. Even the Republicans didn't buy that guy.

10. we need to show more overall strength in the state
if we can keep the Statehouse and add a governor...

take CO7 and put pressure on some other races...

Salazar will come around (I hope).

The real trick will be electing Udall to the Senate. I could live with Salazar a lot better if Udall got in...

13. that's simply not true
you're saying that there's no difference between Salazar and a Republican who would be elected instead.

That's nonsense.

14. I sorry I can't
compromise on torture. Salazar has shown he has no problem supporting torturers. The man is scum in my book. Nothing will change my mind. NOTHING!

16. I don't think it's
wrong to be inflexible when it come to civil rights. By supporting Gonzales and Roberts, Salazar has shown his willingness to compromise on constitutional protections and civil rights. I won't be blinded by the D after his name. If that's a conservative worldview, oh well.

17. We really don't know how Roberts will turn out.
I guess it depends on who he thinks he is working for. And I think voting for someone when so little is known publicly about him except that he is "brilliant" is pretty risky.

But, I'm not going to ditch Salazar for a Republican. I'm withholding judgment on Roberts. And Salazar has always been conservative. I'm just hoping for progressive. The politics are so dysfunctional right now, it's hard to second guess people. But I do think Salazar has more integrity than most of the people on the Republican side of the aisle put together.
