I am heartily and thoroughly sick and tired of ice.

Especially the compacted, nasty stuff on roads and side streets where the plows only hit once, maybe twice.

I don't mind the snow. I don't mind the cold. But the ice is making me really unhappy.

1. Yeah... my car's alignment was the first to go, then my fillings...

and now I worry about breaking an axel! My doggie is the only one that likes the slip-slide and rock-n-roll that is the daily ritual nowadays.

Actually, I worry more about falling and braking my hip!

I think I'm far to young to worry about that, but lately it has made me think! :eyes:

And cars are supposed to have wheels, right?

And it's never too early for a good pelvic fracture... though right now, my big worry is less hip and more knee (one's 18 months post-op for major reconstruction, the other is waiting for the first one to be strong enough to carry us all through the even more extensive rehab of rebuilding an even MORE damaged knee....)

Bundle up, take care and keep warm... it's gonna be unpleasant here for a few days....

3. LOL.... I am so glad I bought brand new tires before all this...

Take care on the knee. I feel really sorry for people that are injured right now and especially the elderly. It is SO easy to fall....Fortunatlely, I'm just black and blue (and not fractured) from the past three weeks.

But, I'm having eye surgery Friday on one eye and have told them to forego the Atavan (which they like to give for sedation-even though only local anesthetic) so that I can drive... So, my fingers are firmly crossed for no or minimal snow for multiple reasons. If they cancel this surgery, I'm really in a world of hurt, as I've had to go almost literally "half blind" for two months now!

4. Another eye surgery person here.

Had the first one in early Dec. and just had the second one last Monday. All the ice and snow has made me hesitant to get out much. And since I have a NewBeetle which has low clearance, I have to be very careful to plot my route. I can't go one direction in my neighborhood....the ruts are deeper than my clearance. I've never seen this long of a period of messy roads, and I've lived here all my life.

Not sure we'll see the melting of all the snow until Spring sometime.

5. I walk every where

and the ice really makes it difficult. Especially when it melts a little bit and there is a thin layer of water on top.

6. I walk to grocery store and other close to home errands...

But in so many places the sidewalk is still not fully open--so that you end up having to walk IN THE STREET. Extremely nerve-wracking, given some of the drivers...

My dog probably saves me... I honestly believe people are more likely to slow down when they see a dog than when they see me. (No judgement calls here... I'm just glad people slow down for her, at least!)

7. The icy parking lots tick me off

Our King Soopers lot is still spotty with slabs of ice. I saw a woman fall the other day. An older woman. Then I hear her grown kids yell - MOM! Idiots weren't even looking after her to see she could negotiate the ice to the car. But still, the store should have had the lot scraped until it was clear. I mean, they sell the damned ice melt inside. So use some already.

And I was at Walgreen's today. The only spots were where I had to walk across the narrow parking area to get to the store. And that's where the ice was. Baby steps and I made it okay. But again - they won't use the ice melt.

8. I'm sick of the cold.

We got home Thursday night & the furnace was out. Arghhh!!!! It is 23 years old, so I'm not surprised, but it would go out on the coldest weekend of the season!

We called three different places. Two didn't even bother to return our call. One called & said they were so backed up the best they could do was Friday afternoon. My husband bought a space heater Friday morning & we piled the animals & ourselves in the bedroom. By the time the furnace company arrived on Friday afternoon, our house was in the 40's.

Not wanting to purchase whatever furnace they happened to have on hand, we picked out what we wanted & they provided us with three additional space heaters. Remarkably, by 10pm Friday evening we were up to 64° in two rooms. It wasn't as bad a weekend as I thought. I was ready to load the animals into the car & find a hotel, but we managed ok.

Hubby just called & the new furnace is in & heating up the house. :) I will take a long hot bath tonight while sipping cold margaritas!

9. I know it's not funny....

But your margarita celebration in a hot bath gave me the chuckles. You deserve it after this ordeal.

I always get so concerned about the electricity. We have the overhead power lines in our area. Used to be with our ancient floor furnace I never worried. It didn't even have a thermostat on it. So electricity wasn't the issue for heat. That old thing kept our house very toasty. But now with the new fangled furnace, I panic if the lights flicker in the wintertime.

And yes, furnaces seem to quit the worse weather day of the season! Just like ovens that go out the day before Thanksgiving and cars that quit on the way to the airport.

10. "...cars that quit on the way to the airport."

Years ago my mother in law flew out for a visit. She was always so critical of our life style so we always hoped everything would go well. After dropping her off at DIA for her return to Cleveland, we were driving back to Boulder & our car quit at Colorado Blvd & 104th. We looked at each other & laughed & laughed, so grateful it didn't happen on the way to DIA.

Remember that huge blackout in the Northeast a few years back? It generated all sorts of talk about upgrading our power grids. All talk & no walk, as it turned out. Some day only the gated communities will have reliable power. The rest of us will be at the mercy of the deteriorating grid.

The cold margs in the hot bath were wonderful!!

11. Lucky you about when the car quit!

Our car once quit on the way to Stapleton Airport. My folks were coming in for a visit. I used my hubby's car since it was bigger and newer. It died a mile from the house. He had to come rescue me with the small Isuzu. It all worked out since I never do airport runs at the last minute. Luckily, it was a beautiful early autumn day.

Blackouts. I was in college when there was that first blackout in 1965. My sister in law and I were at my mom's kitchen table (in Queens) doing the Times crossword puzzle. Our heads were getting closer and closer to the page until we realized that the lights were dimming. My folks worked in Brooklyn and rode the elevated train. They had to leave the train and walk the tracks to the next station. What a mess. I got my drivers license after that.

Hey, it's 34 degrees on the south side of the house. We're having a heat wave! B-)

12. Winter from Hell

Spent the last 4 days with no water due to frozen pipes.
Yesterday the pipes thawed and filled the small crawl space below the bath with water before discovered.
Bought enough tools and parts to open a plumbing shop.
Broke pipe in two more places trying to cut out the burst spot.
Bought more parts.
Spent an hour squished in a two foot deep, wet, and cold hole. Need I mention the nails protruding from the floor above.
Took a hot shower at 10pm last night.
I feel better now.

which will cause more ice eventually. This will be the 5th weekend in a row that is has snowed. Grrrr!
