CU-Boulder student center becomes hangout for homeless
Source: Boulder Daily Camera

While the UMC has always tended to attract homeless people in the winter, the extreme temperatures this semester -- which have plummeted to below zero -- and a $2 million makeover that added televisions, a fireplace and more comfortable seating seem to be increasing the draw. The renovation was completed in the fall.

1. Disgusting...
"She said it's unacceptable that she pays $105.19 a semester in student fees to fund the UMC, which is catering to the homeless.

"It is absolutely appalling that students pay over $200 a year and cannot sit on the couches or enjoy the new fireplace because the homeless are busy enjoying those areas for us," Flint wrote."

Ah yes, a whole new batch of up and coming repukes. Just kick their already down on their luck asses out into the sub-zero temperatures.

2. She's an exception

The DailyCamera needed a reason to make an article. I got my undergraduate degree from CU a couple of years ago - for the most part, students are as sympathetic and welcoming of the homeless as the rest of Boulder. There is an issue in the winter of few comfortable places for students to escape the cold. The campus is the size of a small town, and going home in between responsibilities is often not an option. But most of my peers did not mind sharing what there was with those less fortunate.

One snooty twit who overvalues her own opinion is not representative of 25,000.

3. I think you are correct about her attitude. What comes to mind though
is that this is a learning experience all in itself. No one should graduate from this school without a good understanding of the problems in this country. When I was in school many of the students were completely without the knowledge of how the other half lived.

6. suck a narrow world view- she is Young
It is sad. The police in Boulder do tend to harass the homeless. My youngest daughter, age 20, was moved to volunteer at the homeless shelter after seeing a boy about her age dig through the trash for some food. She went in to the Taco Bell, where she was and bought him a taco. She mentioned that so many of the people in the shelter look like neighbors, just regular people. I have heard stories of them giving homeless people tickets, knowing of course, that they had no money to pay the fine with.
