Info on Kauai?
We're leaving for Kauai on the 7th. I got all the info packs, browsed all the websites, etc., but I was wondering if anyone who lives there could tell me some things to do. We chose Kauai because we're not the "nightlife-Big Island-touristy" type, and we were told that it's the last of the islands that hasn't been ruined by big business. We like the peace & quiet.

We're staying on the Eastern Shore, the Marriott on Kalapaki Beach.

Thanx!

2. I used to live on Oahu, but have visited kauai
You will love it. It's beautiful! (although it does tend to rain a lot there.) I'm sure you'll get to Waimea Canyon and Hanalei. Have a great time, and aloha!

6. The travel agent told us about the rain....
But she said that if it's raining in the North, head South. If it's raining in the East, head West. :D

Kauai is the only island we haven't been to yet. Maybe next year.:)

8. Awesome!
You've been to Molokai? We almost decided to go there, but the travel agent recommended Kauai. Is Molokai a place that we should look into for a future vacation?

11. OOPS, sorry I misspoke
What it should have said was that Kauai was the only island we that we had planned to see on our trip that we didn't get to. There are several islands we haven't been to. We went to Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii. We are gong to Hilo to look at some property, for retirement purposes. :) That's what I get for posting when I am heading out the door.

7. We'll be there for 10 days
We're mostly the type that like to do "local" stuff. We're not too into the whole mall-shopping thing. We're more the local small shop, flea market type.

I've read about the snorkeling & scuba diving. I can't go scuba diving because I have a heart problem, but they said that snorkeling would be okay.

10. There are so many places and things to see. Frommers or Let's Go
would probably be worth picking up and reading through.
Waimea Canyon and Hanalei are well worth checking out as mentioned above (even in the rain). Lumaha'I Beach is the best beach on the Island if you like tranquility. You'll have to walk down a semi muddy/slippery hill, but so well worth it. Poipu is nice if you don't mind a bit of company. I think the only thing I bought was a Crazy T tee shirt, so I'm not the person to ask for shopping hints. Have fun, and enjoy the best Hawaii has to offer. Wish I was going!

12. HOLY COW!
There is no picture that we took that could possibly do Kauai any justice! What a beautiful place! We're already planning our return for next year! Waimea Canyon is absolutely gorgeous!
