there are 3 news copters hovering over my neighborhood.
2 nbc, and a fox. at first i thought it was one the was circling around.
i just turned on cltv, and they said it is coming up after the break, but i missed what they said exactly, cuz i can hardly hear over the copters. they have been up there for over an hour.

oh, they are looking for a rapist that escaped from cops.

1. On NPR they are talking about...
significant police activity around Warren Park and a police checkpoint. So that is what's happening.

3. I am still recovering from the move....
and it was April 29.

Most of everything is unpacked and arranged. I still have to think about where I am going when I leave the office.

But about a mile to the south.

They caught the guy. Here is a link to the Tribune article.

Rape suspect caught after escape

By Jason Meisner and Josh Noel
Tribune staff reporters
Published May 10, 2006, 6:46 PM CDT

A handcuffed rape suspect who had escaped from police custody was arrested this morning following a four-hour manhunt in the Rogers Park neighborhood on Chicago's North Side.

The man, who was wanted in connection with a sexual assault and kidnapping that occurred early this morning, was taken into custody shortly after 10 a.m. near the intersection of Pratt and Hamilton Avenues, Chicago police Deputy Chief Steve Caluris said at the scene.

A woman who lives in the 2100 block of West Farwell Avenue called 911 after she noticed "something strange" about the crawlspace door into her basement, police spokeswoman Monique Bond said. The suspect had apparently been hiding under the woman's porch.

"Her intuition, her instinct told her something was wrong," Bond said.

10. The news copters hover, the police circle.
You don't really know these kinds of things until you live in LA for a while.

The news guys like to hold steady while the police like to orbit a scene.

Hovering gives the news guys a steadier shot. Orbiting is advantageous to the police because they get a 360 view of the situation, and it is safer. (If something mechanical fails, they have a better chance of auto-rotating to safety, (the helicopter's less successful equivalent to gliding).

Choppers over the house is so common for me, I just sleep right through it.

12. Yep. I miss Chicago.
California, well I should just say Los Angeles specifically, is a dump.
