Hopefully repubs stay home in Nov. I think these results are pretty good considering how conservative this district is.

"35 percent said Roskam and 34 percent said Duckworth, according to the Bennett, Petts & Blumenthal poll, which has a 4.9 percent margin of error."

snip

"Roskam starts off with a stronger GOP base vote. Asked if you "generally think of yourself as a Democrat, Republican or Independent,'' 24 percent said strong Republican and 15 percent said strong Democrat. When combined with "leaners,'' the numbers are 49 percent GOP and 36 percent Democrat, with 10 percent Independent."

1. This is GREAT news
Roskam is a totally hard-core, far-right whackjob who will hopefully scare away a whole buncha Republicans. Duckworth's campaign just has to keep hammering it home how bizarre this guy is - he even had an "exorcism/blessing" on his new home by his minister when he moved in!

Are you getting shades of Ashcroft's head annointed with oil when he was elected AG??!!

Creepy.

If she can stay moderate and pound away the message about the mismanagement of the war, I believe she stands a chance. The OP is correct in reading this district as uberconservative. It is one of the "bellweather" counties for the Repukes, Henry Hyde's stomping grounds where every presidential candidate has come to court since time immemorial....

2. she needs to listen to christine, the #1 issue
that people care about in the 6th is education. that is why these people live there, and pay enormous property taxes- education. roskam seriously, really, honestly, wants to destroy public education. he has a non-profit "foundation" whose stated goal is to turn education over to the private sector, esp. churches. course, it probably really just launders bribes, but still.....
