Chicago Federation of Labor Backs Brewer
50th Ward Candidate Wins Union Backing

West Rogers Park – The Chicago Federation of Labor Tuesday endorsed 50th Ward candidate Greg Brewer Tuesday in his quest to unseat 34-year incumbent Ald. Bernie Stone.

Brewer and other candidates met with the CFL last week. Brewer stood out from the pack in the 50th Ward because of his commitment to Chicago’s working families.

“We’re thrilled and honored to have the Chicago Federation of Labor standing with us,” Brewer said. “This is just one more part of the wide coalition we’re building for change, inclusiveness and accountability in the 50th Ward. It’s a big tent, and everyone is invited.”

Brewer is an architect, planner and project manager with 20 years of worldwide experience. Brewer impressed the CFL with his intelligence, experience and understanding of the issues.

Other Brewer endorsers include Edgewater-Rogers Park Democracy for America, Loop Supporters Democracy for America, and countless community leaders and residents.

The CFL includes more than 300 union locals in the Chicago area associated with the AFL-CIO. More than 500,000 working men and women belong to CFL-affiliated locals.

“The CFL knows that Bernie Stone is no friend of working families, and he’s no friend of the 50th Ward,” Brewer said. “The big businesses and connected insiders all have someone working for them. That’s not me. I’m fighting for the residents of the 50th Ward, and I will make sure they have a voice in the future of their neighborhoods.”

About Greg Brewer: Greg Brewer is an architect and planner with 20 years of experience on large-scale national and international projects. Brewer is a project manager with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Brewer is founder of Citizens for Responsible Development and is running for alderman to preserve the character and integrity of our neighborhoods. Brewer, 49, lives with his wife Maribeth in their West Rogers Park bungalow. For more information, visit www.gregbrewer.org.

1. he sounds like a great candidate.
he needs to get up to speed about schools, tho. i talked to my friend, that was her problem. he needs a real cynic about cps to give him the low down on what is wrong with the schools in the 50th. clinton and boone are in dire need.

2. Schools
Well, the CFL includes the teachers' union and the teachers are coming out volunteering in full force for Greg. To me, that would seem to be a pretty good indicator that he's on the right side of school issues. He was "principal for a day" at Clinton school a few months ago. I am curious why your friend thinks that Naisy would be a better advocate for students, teachers, and public schools. Is it because she joined the LSC of a local charter school when she decided to run for alderman or because she has small children? I am curious.

If you send me your friend's information, I can have Greg contact her. He's always looking for different perspectives and input in the community.

3. principal for the day
that's right. that's where she met him. she is an adminstrative assistant there. she used to be at boone. her impression was that he "just didn't get it". she said that when talking to naisy about the same things, she did understand. it could be a mom to mom thing. i think she might have met naisy before this campaign. i know that lsc service would strike a chord. she and her husband both did time on their lsc.
i will give her a buzz and see what she thinks. let me know if you have a school related event, and i will see if i can get her to come.
