1. damn. i was all set to go, but i went to a different zoo.
spent the evening in the er at children's with my little crohn's patient. now that there is a zoo. i do not know how people can work there. not the kids, it's the parents. omg, i almost pulled back the curtain and smacked the woman next to us. what a witch.

anyway. i had a feeling they would be ramped up for jan. dying to see if the local freeper has some video to post. he has the meeting info posted, with no editorial comment. i assumed that was a bad thing.
post links to anything that you see about it, will you? wonder what kind of coverage they got for their loud selves.

2. Would you describe your experience please? My college pal was there
(he's a right winger) and he described the pro-health care reform side as being "organized and intimidating."
He wrote about it here
http://www.navyjacks.com

What did you see?

3. When we arrived we stood in a friendly long line. I didn't see any right wingers
me and a co-worker from the hospice where I work went together. We got there 2 hours early. Before it started I got a call on my cell from my 75yo mom. She said "guess where I am" I answered, "I'm guessing you are in the same room that I'm in". I turned around and she was 4 rows behind me. We both started laughing.

When it started they had a supervisor from the high school talk about showing respect as an example for the high school kids in the audience. That got a lot of applause and I thought the crowd was all liberal. Then Jan came out and said some kind words about remembering Teddy Kennedy. What seemed to me like 20% of the audience BOOOOOD HER! That really floored me. After that, I knew things would get messy.

I guess in general there was A LOT of anger on both sides. I don't think the town hall helped us. Jan isn't going to change her vote and the right wingers didn't gain any respect for her. They didn't like her answers and were upset she hadn't memorized the 1000 page bill and couldn't explain a couple of sections in it. I think her aids could have been more helpful. Jan tried to give the mic to the right wingers, but it really didn't seem to help. I could see why she did it. But, they still hate her.

It did appear to me that a pro-choice woman bullied an anti-choice woman out of the auditorium when she didn't like her question. It was creepy. That bothered me. Actually, the pro-choice bully was really small in stature. Maybe I misinterpreted what I saw.

Jan gave some really good answers at times. She dispelled the lies. She had a wonderful 8 page handout for all of us outlining the bill and how it would be phased in. But, there were some times she did not answer questions that well. I must say she seemed frustrated and I think any liberal would be.

One question that I do remember that made me feel good. One tea bagger asked her if she had polled her constituency about health care. Her response was that she has been open and honest about her views on health care and that there is a very important poll that comes out every 2 years and if people don't like her she will be out.

I'll post more if I can remember more. There were many more right wing creeps than I thought would be there. I believe I heard there were 1,300 people there and 500 people turned away.

These are my subjective observations. I really couldn't tell how many of us were there and how many of them. I can be sure we outnumbered them. How much I don't know.
