The Rockford Sons of Liberty
A difference in the future direction of the movement between members of the local Rockford Coffee Party has resulted in the formation of a new local political organization, The Rockford Sons of Liberty.

"We intend to be more aggressive in countering the right-wing nonsense of the Tea Party movement," said Del Wasso, the former media co-ordinator for the local Coffee Party chapter in Rockford, and an organizer for the new group. "We'll be writing more newspaper articles, appearing more often with our union brothers and sisters, and generally be more visible than we were in standing up to the radical conservative social agenda."

"The Coffee Party's approach to today's issues were too understated to be taken seriously," said Mr. Wasso. "The national organization's insistence on direct control over what local groups could or could not do made the split inevitable. We're not the first group to break off, and we certainly won't be the last."

The "Sons of Liberty" were, historically, a political group made up of American patriots formed to protect the rights of the colonists from the usurpations by the British government after 1766. They are best remembered for throwing the East Indian Company's tea into Boston Harbor.

In reference to the group's name, and intentions, Mr. Wasso said, "We're ready to throw the corporate-sponsored tea, metaphorically speaking, overboard, all over again. The Tea Party claims to stand up for the little guy, but then fully endorses political empowerment of private corporations, to the detriment of the little guy, especially in light of how they view organized labor. Organized labor, with or without the flaws, is the only way the Average Joe can stand up to corporations, today."

2. Of Course There is...

Of course there are "Daughters" of Liberty, but if we didn't call ourselves the "Sons of Liberty" and used the symbology of the flag flown over Boston Harbor, we wouldn't be able to take back the legacy the Tea Party sons of bitches have usurped from the rest of us, and then rub it in their noses, would we?

Symbols have meaning.

Our symbol is the red and white striped "Sons of Liberty" flag carried by the nation's Founders when they finally stood up to the corporate power of the East India Company, and their wealthy sponsor, the King of England, AND THREW THE CORPORATE TEA INTO THE HARBOR.

The very idea is a slap in the face to the Tea Party and their supporters.

Believe me, they'll understand the symbology very quickly. We are calling them out, one and all, as corporate whores, and traitors.

Why do all that, you might ask?

The Tea Party has tried to adopt every historical symbol Americans have used in order to wage a psychological campaign against their neighbors: The Tree of Liberty, the "Don't Tread on Me" Gadsen Flag, et cetera, et cetera.

To someone only vaguely familiar with American history, the use of these American icons has (unfortunately) convinced more than one person that the Tea Party MUST speak for America.

The logic they are employing, while simple, is quite effective, and works like this:

"If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it must be a duck."

Our view is that just because someone has planted Old Glory into a stinking pile of dung, the pile of dung hasn't been magically transformed into something "patriotic". All that has occurred was the desecration of the flag.

The Rockford Sons of Liberty are taking back our country from these rotten, stinkin' sons of bitches, and we're doing it, starting today.

PS: In the near future we're going to have both "Sons" and "Daughters" of Liberty T-Shirts.
