New Economic Survey Ranks Illinois #1; This Time It's A Good Thing

When it comes to making a living, Illinois ranks #1 among all 50 states.

Surprised? It’s quite an accomplishment and worth celebrating as we emerge from the Great Recession!

That’s the way MoneyRates.com calls it in a new state-by-state economic survey. They based their rankings this way: “States are ranked by their adjusted average incomes, which is the average income for each state after taking into account state taxes, unemployment rates and cost of living.”

1. Illinois is a great place to live
As long as we keep electing Democratic governors it will stay that way.

4. I would like to know where In Illinois????
It isn't down south, thats for sure! I have been looking for a job for six months now since I lost mine and haven't had any success. Our local economy is terrible but don't have many choices right now since I am caring for a sick parent as well.

5. I'm really sure this has a lot to do with the Chicago area.
Central and southern Illinois (I live in central Illinois) are controlled by Repubs for the most part and do not reflect any of the good things about the Chicago area.

7. OK, I'm getting really tired of the downstate bashing in this thread
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 11:17 AM by WildEyedLiberal
The entirety of downstate IL is most certaintly not "controlled by Repubs," and perhaps Chicago should look to its own house before criticizing everywhere else in the state. Electing machine Democrats does not make the city a paradise on Earth compared to the rest of the state.

ETA: You want to know why the rest of the state resents Chicago? This attitude.
