http://www.dailyherald.com/cook/main_story.asp?intID=384155"One of the main goals for both Barrington Hills president candidates is to make sure the village retains its character.
Much of that includes protecting the area from developers who want to disconnect from the village or change the current zoning laws, which require a minimum of 5 acres because of the village's equestrian history.
"The village was founded on 5-acre zoning. I've got to defend 5 acres," said James Kempe, the incumbent president, at a candidate forum Thursday arranged by the League of Women Voters of the Barrington Area.
Apprehension over new development stems partly from two lawsuits waged on behalf of Fritz Duda Co. The company was able to deannex 368 acres of the village into McHenry County in 2003. Duda wants to develop the land into 1-acre home sites surrounding a golf course.
Robert Abboud, challenger for the president position and current trustee on the Barrington Hills board, said the reason the village lost the case was because of poor planning."
5 acres?
:wtf:
I wonder why we have sprawl....
