We had 15" of rain in june and july in Keokuk. This along with all the rain to the north kept the Mississippi above flood stage for most of the summer of 93. The levies around the area were being breached shortly after the fourth of july. It was an amassing site to fly over seeing the Mississippi 14 miles wide south of Keokuk.
I will remember that one forever. Water so high that fourth street in Davenport was closed in parts, and it is several blocks from the River. And who can forget the pics of the "lonesome lawn tractor" at the baseball park? Just one tractor sitting on the pitchers mound, broadcast everywhere by CNN.
7. OMG! Our puppy went to District Convention with us (her first road trip and hotel stay)
because our groomer's building was about to go under water in Hudson! Our basement had just a bit of water in it (thank goodness for small favors) but our ponds are all over their banks and all the goose nests are under (looks like we'll have a late year for goslings).
