Hmm...Maine Clean Power residential electricity rates are *lower* than CMP or Bangor Hydro??
I'm trying to convince an (cantankerous, stubborn, set-in-the-ways) elderly relative to put in an electric hot water heater and stop burning oil. Doing the math, I ran across these numbers...

Is there something I'm missing here???

http://www.energymaine.com/mresignup/prices.php

http://www.state.me.us/meopa/electric/current_rates.html

CMP $0.151574 per kWh
BHE $0.173971 per kWh

Maine Clean Power Hydro: $0.140 per kWh
Maine Clean Power Wind: $0.15 per kWh
Maine Clean Power Hydro-Wind: $0.145 per kWh

2. Nope.
Cost of one source is rising, the other falling. We're at the meeting point. It's a good place to be for Maine!

:applause:

I love this state.

3. Are you factoring in distribution costs correctly?

I'm with Bangor Hydro and when I've compared the standard price with clean (Maine Interfaith Light and Power) it always been more expensive. You have a choice of electricity producers, but BHE will get you on distribution costs no matter what the source. If you look at the electric coops around the state, they are way cheaper than the commercial ones. I'm trying to get one started where I live (Orono) with some form of clean energy.

4. Yeah, the CMP cost includes distribution, the Maine Clean Power rates do not
The cost of the "standard offer" power (only) through CMP is $0.099739 per kWh.

Maine Clean Power's rates must've just gone up in the last few months. Earlier this year I was considering signing up with them and I think it was a few cents cheaper.

5. Rates
Actually the number for the 'clean power' do NOT include the transmission fee - that is only the 'source fee'.

The CMP and BHE figures are for source AND transmission.

I'm in BHE territory; if I recollect correctly - the transmission is 0.08/KWH.

So, the real costs for those would be 0.08/KWH HIGHER, so each is more expensive than the default consumer mix currently.
