Free Kitten to Good Home (Adopt Keith or Randi... we're keeping Stephanie)
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 02:49 PM by IanDB1
The other day, in a reckless and ill-advised act of kindness, we took in a litter of four kittens I found living under the bushes of my back yard.

Unfortunately, one of them had a nasty wound on its ear, and had to be put down and tested for rabies.

If we left them at the local shelter, the other three would have been euthanized as well, since they are so young (about 3-4 weeks old).

So now we are quarantining them in our home for at least 10 days.

We're keeping one of them for ourselves, the little gray one we named Stephanie.

A relative of my wife's co-worker is interested in adopting one of the other two-- Keith or Randi-- but isn't sure which one she wants yet.

So, if anyone is interested, here are Keith and Randi.

Keith

Randi

This is Stephanie... we're keeping this one.

I thought about switching names between Stephanie and Randi, since the cat named Randi is actually more like a Stephanie. You see, Randi suffers from "pee-shyness", and I need to rub a warm cloth on Randi's butt to make her go potty.

Randi is the runt of the litter, and doesn't seem to eat as much. So, we're supplementing her with a bottle of kitten formula.

Otherwise, they're all a healthy bunch of happy little kitties with six toes on their front paws, four toes in back, and extra dewclaws on every leg.

Unfortunately, until their quarantine period is up, we have to limit our contact to care-and-feeding only.

They're starting to feel more at ease, playing with one another, and finally starting to purr.

They are a happy, friendly bunch of little kitties.

Who wants one?

6. Would it be in poor taste to posthumously name the one we had to put down?
Yes, I'm very upset about it.

But I can't help thinking that we should have named the cream-colored cat "Coulter," since none of the other cats liked her and she had a mysterious lump where it didn't belong.

But she was still a sweet little kitty, and I can't bring myself to actually name her after someone evil.

2. Awwwww.....except my friend Stephanie wants to know
why you associate having to rub a warm cloth on the butt to go pee, with her name.

These are very cute kitties. I hope you find wonderful homes for them.

3. Paruresis (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Paruresis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paruresis (IPA ), also known as pee shyness, shy kidney, bashful bladder, stage fright, or shy bladder syndrome is a type of social anxiety disorder, that can affect both men and women, in which the sufferer is unable to urinate in the (real or imaginary) presence of others, such as in a public restroom. The analogous condition that affects bowel movement is called parcopresis.

<snip>

(2007) Comedienne and Progressive Talk Show host Stephanie Miller commented to her listeners that she needs to "tickle her butt" to be able to urinate.

7. Update: Keith is being adopted. Randi still needs a home.
Randi is the smallest of the bunch, and I'm afraid she's not eating enough. So, she's being bottle-fed.

Tiny and cute!

Who wants her?

8. Update: Randi finally eating liquid kitten formula
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 01:44 PM by IanDB1
Randi is living up to her namesake, and has been making a lot of noise. Randi cries and complains a lot, and I'm concerned that something might be wrong with her.

Kind of the way I feel about the real Randi, too.

After refusing to drink from the kitten-nursing nipple, Randi has become cool with drinking from an oral syringe (about 1.5 teaspoons every 4 hours). But she's the only one refusing any solid food.

Also, all the kitties have some loose stools, to one extent or another.

I told my daughter I didn't want to keep the gray one with the long hair, because poop would stick to its fur. And behold, I was right. Stephanie got poop stuck to her fur.

I guess that is why the real Stephanie has a bidet and central vacuum.

I'm thinking the "soupy poopies" might be because I fed the whole group a mix of liquid plus powdered supplement, and placed it in a bowl for them to eat (as suggested in the product instructions). This may have just been too liquidy for them, so I took the other kitties off that.

I also gave them some Bene-Bac beneficial bacterial supplement.

Anyway, they've been getting canned kitten food with powdered supplement, plus dry food sprinkled with powdered supplement.

Last night, one of them decided to poop in the bowl of solid food.

Other than that, they're already learning to confine their potties to the kitty litter.

And on a side note, the leader of my Star Wars guild kicked me out because he thought I was talking about my cats too much, and he thought I was making the whole thing up. I offered to point him to the blog where I had the photos posted, but he declined.

I think he's really just pissed because I want to become mayor of the guild's city, and rename it to Mos Colbert.

Anyway, if any DUers want to start playing Star Wars Galaxies, meet me on the Chilastra server, and I'll help you get off to a good start.

PS: Randi is still available for adoption!

"Mice are evil, they're vermin! All they do is eat and poop! Oh, those MICE! It's seventeen minutes after the hour..."

This is the first time I've rescued a litter of kittens, and let me tell you... the guy from Animal Control is PISSED at me for it.

Even if you do adopt Randi, she can't have any contact with other animals or with children for six months, just in case.

Keep in mind that we have to quarantine these cats for ten days, because one of their littermates MIGHT have been exposed to rabies. (That would be Coulterkitty, the one we had to put to sleep.)

9. Update: Randi is Keith and Keith is Randi!
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 08:42 PM by IanDB1
Apparently, The MSPCA missed a few things.

Namely, that Randi has balls, and that Keith does not. Not even little "lady's testicles."

So, Randi and Keith have exchanged names (and, apparently, gender).

Randi

Keith

Oh, the other thing The MSPCA missed?

Fleas!
We have all been infested with FLEAS!

So now, all three cats (plus our two dogs) need $200 worth of FLEA MEDICINE!

Oh, and the cats are still too young to be given the flea medication, so guess what? We have to let a few generations of fleas live-out their little buggy life-cycles for a couple weeks. 100 eggs per day per flea for 2 weeks equals...

The good news? Fecal samples tested negative for parasites.

And Keith (formerly Randi) is running a low-temp and needs to be kept warmer-- more snuggle time-- which means more fleas for me, and more risk of rabies.

Apparently, Keith is a cat with very small balls, so I considered re-naming him to Colmes. But nah... they will probably grow to Colbert-sized proportions as he grows-up.

Good news is, the veterinarian seemed to think that we were being OVERLY cautious, since we do not yet know if the cream-colored kitty with the wound actually had rabies.

They seem to think the cats are fine.

Aside from the fleas, anyway.

"It has been 23 days since I was infested with fleas. Good night, and good luck."

12. Update: Keith's asshole is sore and swolen, possibly due to having his temperature taken.
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 03:08 PM by IanDB1
Should I stick a bow-tie on him and re-name him Tucker?

Tucker Kitty: "The next time someone tries to put a thermometer in my ass, I'm going to shove their head against the bathroom wall."

Anyway, time to call the vet.

Also, we've noticed that Keith (formerly Randi) actually has SEVEN TOES on each of his front feet.

You know what they say about cats with big hands, right?

Well, I guess we're not changing his name to Tucker.

He's gonna stay Keith.

"I've got a 'Special Comment' for you... my ASS hurts!"

And now the vet wants us to bring him in, so we're gonna check his little kitty tush-tush to make sure it's not prolapsed.

Oh, by the way...

This is the veterinarian's office...

13. Update: Tiny little asshole costs $80
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 05:17 PM by IanDB1
The last time I paid that much money for an asshole, it was to see Dennis Miller live on stage. (But that was when he was Liberal and funny).

The good news is, Little Keith's tiny little asshole is NOT prolapsed.

Dr. Diebold (who assures me she is NOT related to the voting machine company) gave me some NeoPolyDex Opthalmic Ointment (Now, with "Boost"?) to put on Keith's smelly little butt-hole three times a day, until two days after the swelling subsides.

Also, everyone gets 1/3 tube of Purina FortiFlora Feline once a day.

And Keith's liquid formula needs to be diluted 50/50 with water.

Other than that, everyone is fine.

No, Toontzes... NoOOOoOOOoooo!

Oh, and to wash the poopy-smell off the kitties, Dr. Diebold suggests using just warm water.

Watch for me to post on www.CatsInSinks.com .

Meanwhile, here is a photo...

... For www.StuffOnMyCat.com

Dr. Diebold (again, no relation to the voting machine company, otherwise she would lose all the black cats) gave me a tour of the office. It's small, but very clean and well-equipped.

They even have their own surgical "laser" which use a "laser beam."

But alas, no sharks with friggin' laser beams attached to their heads, and no molten, hot mag-ma.

Keith Olbermann would probably read this and say "Yeah, truth be told, that actually sounds a lot like my...uh, backside."

So he's a loudmouth, but with very tiny balls?

Edit: Can't you name the poor deceased one Molly, after Molly Ivins? Seems a nicer thing to do than to name her after :scared: Ann Coulter.

21. Want a baseball bat in your ass?

Yes, that's basically what you did to that tiny kitten. Hope you learned a lesson! It's great that you
took them in, but I hope you realize what you did. Making a joke out of it may have given you comic
relief, I suppose.

15. Update: Keith is going to New Hampshire, and starting to eat solid food
Today, one of my wife's co-workers came by to see the kitties.

They are definitely going to be taking Keith on Wednesday, after his 10-day quarantine.

We've been getting him to eat solid food out of a baby spoon, too.

Oh, and we found a giant tic inside Stephanie's ear-- yet another reason to question her personal freshness.

Giant, white-bellied tic with a little red head on it.

But otherwise, everyone is doing great.

The only kitty that still needs a home is Randi. She's the largest and most playful of the bunch, too.

17. Update: We found a home for Randi, and Keith is on his way to New Hampshire
Today, we played with all three kitties on a tarp in the back yard.

They are a very playful bunch, but prefer not to play with the actual cat toys. Instead, they would rather chase the shadows cast by the toes, or playfully wrestle with our fingers.

Before he left, I finally got Keith eating from a dish on his own.

We went from an oral syringe, to a spoon. And then he would only eat from a dish if I held the dish up next to my cheek as he clung to my shirt. And then finally, he'd eat from the bowl on the floor, but only if I used a spoon to push chunks of food up to his mouth.

Finally, I put him in a vari-kennel, alone with his food, and gradually got him to go from spoon-assisted to eating on his own.

Whew!

My special-needs kitty looks like he's gonna be okay.

Also, I called The MSPCA, and they still haven't tested Coulter-kitty for rabies yet. I'm not all that concerned anymore, since aside from the "soupy poopies," the fleas, and one huge tick, they all seem very healthy. But it would be good to know if we need to be more careful than we are now.

So today, we brought Keith into my wife's office, and gave her to the lady that's adopting her. Keith is going to her boyfriend's mom in New Hampshire.

And while he was there, one of the other ladies in the office decided she wants to adopt little Randi. But we have to hold on to her until September 14th when she gets back from vacation.

My daughter has cried off and on since we started in the car to Boston. She's going to miss Keith. She was trying to convince me for a while that she could use her imagination to bring him back for real. Eventually, she realized that this was not going to work, and broke down into full-on sobbing and crying.

She's still upset, but she's happy to be home now playing with little Stephanie.

I knew this would be hard on her.

She got very angy and upset when she thought I sold our pet Sand Beetle in Star Wars Galaxies. I told her, "No, I didn't sell Kafka! I sold a giant spider!" And she was still upset, so I had to grow ANOTHER giant spider, AND let her name it. She insisted on naming my fierce, killer giant spider "Bubble-D."

Ugh. Beware the terrible "Bubble-D" spider!

And speaking of Star Wars Galaxies...

Here's something funny.

Earlier, I mentioned that our Guild Leader kicked me out of the guild for talking about the cats too much, and telling people not to vote for me for mayor of our guild city.

Well, it turns out that the guy who became mayor of the city is trying to sell it to a competing guild.

They really should have voted for me the first time.

If any of you have been thinking of signing-up to play Star Wars Galaxies, join the Chilastra server, and stop by Brewster Jennings & Associates or The Stephanie Miller FanClub on Lok. Look me up (Ian-Okolik Beeko and Brewster Jennings). You can also find me playing as ValleriePlame Wilson and BrewsterJenning Imack on the Chimera server.
