Pat Scanlon invites you to:
A Fundraiser for Iraq Veterans Against The War
Winter Soldier Hearings
At the Moonakis Café
460 Waquoit Hwy (28)
East Falmouth, MA
Saturday, February 9th at 4 PM“These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country”
Thomas Paine
This quote inspired the name of the Winter Soldier Investigation (WSI) in 1971 of war crimes in Vietnam, for it is the Winter Soldier who is the true patriot. Vietnam Veterans Against The War (VVAW) brought together over 100 veterans to testify as to the true nature of the atrocities and war crimes happening in Vietnam. Now Iraq Veterans Against The War (IVAW) again will make public the testimony of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the Winter Soldiers, as well as Iraqi and Afghan survivors in a public investigation called Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan on March 13 -16 in Washington D.C. This will be explosive testimony about events that are rarely if ever covered in mainstream U.S. media. Americans will be shocked when they hear first hand descriptions of what actually has happened in Iraq and Afghanistan in our name. This is a good opportunity to grab the public’s attention and reach those that have not yet committed to ending this war. It also stands the very good chance of being heard by active duty military personnel. Think of dissent from within!
The budget for this undertaking is large, and Veterans For Peace is organizing fundraisers around the country to help fund this important event. Pat Scanlon, Vietnam Veteran and Veterans For Peace Member, and his band (Holly Gettings, Bill Perry and Eric Kilburn) will be performing music from their latest CD entitled: Kennebunkport - “Songs For Peace”. Joe Bangert, Vietnam Veteran and Winter Soldier I participant will speak. This ‘gentleman’ is worth listening to! The intent of this event is to raise money for a worthy cause, listen to some good music and have a good time with our friends and supporters who want to see this illegal and immoral war ended. Appetizers, beverages, toe-tapping peace tunes and perhaps some “old time” dancing will all flow forth. Please come.
If you cannot come but want to donate, please send a check made out to IVAW to:
