Big Dig found full of leaks **Bechtel** due to poor construction
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2004/11/10/big_dig_found_riddled_with_leaks/

Engineers hired to investigate the cause of September's massive Big Dig tunnel leak have discovered that the project is riddled with hundreds of leaks that are pouring millions of gallons of water into the $14.6 billion tunnel system.

(snip)

The engineers also said they have discovered documents showing that Bechtel managers were aware that the wall breached this fall was deficient from the moment it was built in the late 1990s, yet did not order it replaced and did not inform state officials of the situation.

As a result, retired judge Edward M. Ginsburg, who leads the state's independent legal team seeking to recover compensation for shoddy construction and negligent management of the project, is now in discussions with Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly's office as they consider a lawsuit targeting Bechtel and the contractor that built the wall section that leaked in September, Modern Continental.

10. Did you read where the slurry walls were not sealed?
I find that unbelievable. Incredulous. How stupid can it get? An unsealed slurry wall is destined to leak and leak like hell too. If one slurry wall is unsealed then how many others? There's no way to know unless there is a leak or the inside tunnel wall is removed to look . . . I am still shaking my head in disbelief!

Wasn't it known that this would happen? Of course it was. Then why? WHY?

6. Thanks, lets take down Romney
Thanks guys'

I ussually hang around the arrianna online boards. I tried registering over here for a whille but I guess it got crowded with all the election hoopla. By the way, we are in need of more libs at the arianna online board.

It's been taken over by Freepers.

Any way's I think we should gear up for the mid term election and take out Romney. This guy is nothing but right wing hate and he's overstayed his welcome.

He is responsible for massive cuts in social services and aid to the Pine street inn. Meanwhile places like Beacon Hill havent recieved a peeny cut back in services. This guy is here waging class warfare on the poor.

I also despised the way he stumped for Bush and his Massachussetts bashing during the election.

8. now they're saying the taxpayers may foot the bill
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 10:48 PM by welshTerrier2
at first, they tried to claim that Bechtel et al would make the repairs without charge to the citizens of mass ...

now they're changing their tune ...

let's see, wasn't this entire project started and finished under republican governors ... aren't republicans supposed to be excellent managers ??

maybe they could stock the tunnel with fish to help out the fishing industry ...
