Forced resignation of state veterans director is a surprise
Some local veterans agents say they are surprised to learn about the forced resignation of state’s long-serving Secretary of Veterans Services Thomas Kelley, a Medal of Honor recipient.

“You can’t question Tom’s dedication and commitment to veterans,” Michael Cunningham, the veterans agent in Milton and Randolph, said. “I’m shocked.”

Kelley, a former Navy captain, said he was told the Patrick administration wanted to take the veterans agency “in a different direction.”

Veterans Undersecretary Coleman Nee, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the first Gulf War, has been named acting secretary until Kelley’s replacement is found.

There had better be a very good reason for this, or Gov. Patrick is gonna catch all kinds of shit for it.
