Brown sits out Mass. delegation's 'It Gets Better' video
By Michael O'Brien - 07/27/11 02:55 PM ET

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) sat out on participating in a video featuring the rest of the Massachusetts delegation counseling gay and lesbian youth suffering from bullying.

The entire delegation — which, except for Brown, consists of Democrats — appeared in a video for the "It Gets Better" campaign, a series of videos started by Dan Savage, a gay rights activist who pens a regular sex column.

Brown's office didn't immediately comment as to why he didn't participate in the video, but the Massachusetts Democratic Party eagerly seized on his absence and circulated an article to reporters that made note of his lack of participation.

Brown's been seen as one of the few Republicans in Congress seen as more supportive of LGBT rights, relatively speaking. Most notably, he joined with a number of Democrats to pass a repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" through the Senate.

1. He'll come up with a reason to explain this and he may even say he was there

2. To be fair,
or maybe I'm just playing devil's advocate here, Scott Brown has to consider whether participating in this will affect his re-election. If he loses re-election because of trying to do something good, then he will be unable to do ANY good, you know what I mean?
Don't get me wrong, I totally support the Trevor Project, I support equal rights for all Americans, and I wouldn't vote for Mr. Brown anyway, as I disagree with his politics. That being said, I don't think he's a bad guy, and I think he's pretty progressive about social issues, but the people who will vote for him will look very carefully at things like this (which really makes no sense - we live in Massachusetts for crying out loud) and could easily coast him his job.
So although I would applaud him for taking a stand on such an important issue as anti-bullying, I guess I could forgive him for not participating, as long as he shows his support in the way he votes, since that's what really matters.

3. Too busy working on jobs to take a few minutes for this/

“Scott Brown has a strong record at the state and federal level against bullying and believes that all people regardless of sexual orientation should be treated with dignity and respect,’’ Reed said. “His main focus right now is on creating jobs and getting our economy back on track.’’

BTW, the Boston Globe is more and more moving from being a respectable paper to being Brown's PR paper.

4. He's creating jobs? That's news to me.
I'll believe that one when I see it. Isn't that what all those republicans ran on in the midterm elections? And of course I must repeat, where are the jobs??!

5. Was he even invited to participate?
Or were only Massachusetts Democrats intended to be involved?
