An Open Letter To Mayor Menino (xpost from GD)
Dear Mayor Menino,

I would like to congratulate you on your support for the Occupy Boston movement.

If you have been reading newspapers from around the country, you know police brutality against peaceful protestors in New York City has caused this movement to go viral.

We The People have been devastated by the Wall Street casino. Poverty, homelessness, no jobs and no hope is the message being sent by our current economic system.

Boston has been at the forefront in this nation when we talk about “redressing our grievances”. The Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party provided sparks to inflame the other colonies rise up and defeat our British masters. The Boston Tea Party eventually proved to be one of the many reactions that led to the American Revolutionary War.

Advocating punishment for those who dumped British East India tea into Boston harbor, Prime Minister Lord North said, "Whatever may be the consequence, we must risk something; if we do not, all is over". Massachusetts Governor Thomas Hutchinson came to be identified by John Adams and Samuel Adams as a proponent of hated British taxes. As acting governor in 1770 he exposed himself to mob attack in the aftermath of the Boston massacre.

I read in the Boston Herald that you said “there’s a limit on how long the demonstration should last.” Teachers, union members, students, nurses, professionals, the retired, the elderly and the jobless comprise the Occupy Wall Street movement. Speaking for myself only, I suggest that the Occupy Wall Street movement is the common people expressing their disagreement with their current conditions.

On the other hand Portland (Oregon) Mayor Sam Adams will join Occupy Portland demonstrators as they march with Portland Marathon officials from the Rose Quarter to Chapman Park. Occupy Portland put out this message yesterday:
Tomorrow we march!

We march with the mayor’s office, the Portland police department and the Portland marathon chief officers! The mayor’s office graciously invited us to join the race, behind the runners at 2:30PM. We follow them from the Rose Quarter, over the Broadway Bridge, along Naito Parkway, West on SW Jefferson to SW 4th to the occupied Chapman Park/camp/headquarters.

Boston can become a leading city for those of us who think a change is overdue. Sir, you have a golden opportunity to make your mark in history. Please join us.

Sincerely,

A Boston native since 1973.

1. Nice letter.
I also saw that quote from Menino, which has me concerned. Never know what that guy will decide to do. I don't trust him.

I was so glad I had the opportunity to get down there to the Occupy Boston site and it was good to see you again as well. :hi:

I hope to get down there again, but right now I'm not sure when that will be.
