It wasn't widely reported, but Congressman Tierney tied with Massachusetts Congressman John Olver as the fourth most liberal of the 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, according to the National Journal. The Congressmen voted "to the left of center" 96% of the time.

Senator Kennedy was also 4th of 100, with a score of 91.2.
