We're interning for John Kerry, but we've got no furniture! Bostonians?
Hey everyone! Myself and another DUer, WildEyedLiberal are interning in Kerry's Boston offices this summer. I'm a Massachusetts native returning for Summer break to support my "local" politicians (I may be a Californian for now, but my heart remains true!) She's an Illinoisan eager to get out of the farm belt for a while to make a difference.

We found an awesome deal on a great two bedroom apartment in Beacon Hill for a summer rental, but it's unfurnished. I am wondering if any of you living in the Boston area have any extra home furnishing type items that are collecting dust unused in your garages that we could borrow, or if you prefer, sell for you at the end of summer if you do not want to keep them and were intending to get rid of them. I will pay gas money to get them to our house from yours, or help in whatever manner is needed.

I intend to buy a few things for myself when we get there, but anything we could borrow that people are not needing/using would be terrific. We are clean, responsible non-smokers with no pets. Ok, I have pets, but they'll be staying home with Dad. We'll take good care of your stuff.

We're seeking:
Bed/s or Futon/s (any size)
Dresser
Night stand(s)
Coffee Table
Chairs/Couch/Love seat, or anything like it...
Any other "furniture-y" type things that might be of use...

Thanks folks! PM me if you have any questions.

1. Welcome to Boston . . .

and it's great to hear that you two will be volunteering for John Kerry.

May I give you a word of precaution? That is, since you are requesting used furniture. Sadly, there's been a resurgence of bed bugs in the Greater Boston area as well as New York City, Chicago, etc. Just so's you will know:

1.) http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/12/29/bed_bugs_are_biting_again_in_suburbs/

2.) http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/bedbugs/

4.) http://www.uos.harvard.edu/ehs/pes_bedbug.shtml

5.) http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1435655

After reading and hearing about this, I, personally, would never accept second-hand bedding or upholstered furniture whether from a used furniture store or otherwise.

I wish you both well.

OH GOOD LORD!

I am so glad you warned me about this. I will perhaps stick to non-bedding type items then. Hard non-upholstered surfaces should be fine - tables, etc...

I have a few people I know in the area who likely have some clean items, but yeah, I'll definitely want to buy any bedding or upholstered items, then.

Thanks again.

Edited to add: Maybe buying a couple of futons from a department store might be a good option to avoid the bedding issue.
