Health Care Town Hall Meeting, 9th District (Rep. Gary Peters)
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 12:45 PM by GreenEyedLefty
(Title edited for clarity.)

Congressman Gary Peters is holding a town hall meeting Tuesday, September 1 at West Bloomfield High School.

9th District Town Hall Meeting
Tuesday September 1, 2009
West Bloomfield High School Auditorium
4925 Orchard Lake Road
West Bloomfield, MI 48323

From Tom Regan: "Please arrive at 4:00 pm if you are able. Several 9th district party members have forwarded emails from various groups of "tea baggers" urging their members to arrive at 5pm and pack the town hall meeting so that supporters of Gary Peters and health care reform cannot get in ("thank you" everyone who forwarded those emails). The tea baggers plan to turn this town hall into another hysterical screaming match.

If you can't arrive that early still come as soon as you are able. Tuesday is the day that the 9th District shows where it stands on health care reform.

Signs will not be allowed inside the building, but if you arrive late and cannot get in please bring a sign and join the pro-health-care-reform group in the parking lot. Don't sit at home and let the "tea baggers" claim another victory. Your presence is needed, and bring family members and friends."

If you cannot attend, please be sure to e-mail Congressman Peters (http://peters.house.gov/?sectionid=45§iontree=3,45) to let him know your stance on health care reform.

7. Back at ya.
I was standing in a group of pro lifers and that guy Fox was interviewing. I wished they had shown me shouting "All the money went to the stupid war in Iraq." but they didn't.

Both parties rally supporters for Peters' health care forum
Detroit News staff and wire reports

West Bloomfield Township -- Given the tone of e-mails sent out by the Oakland County Republican and Democratic parties, a health care town hall meeting tonight sponsored by U.S. Rep. Gary Peters could be rowdy.

On Monday, Oakland County GOP Chairman David Law urged supporters to ask the Bloomfield Township Democrat to "stop the government takeover of health care." Law urged those opposed to health care reform to show up at 5 p.m. to get seats at an event he said is expected to be heavily attended. Those who can't get in were urged to join a rally outside the school against health care reform.

In response, the County Democratic Party sent out an e-mail to its supporters this morning urging them to show up at 4 to thwart efforts by reform opponents "to pack the town hall meeting so that supporters of Gary Peters and health care reform cannot get in." Supporters are also urged gather outside the forum throughout the evening.

The forum for 9th District residents takes place at West Bloomfield High School, and no signs will be allowed inside the building. Peters has held smaller discussions with constituents in recent months, and says residents will be able to ask questions about health care proposals at Tuesday's meeting.

5. Ask and ye shall recieve. My recap:
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 09:30 PM by maddogesq
I give Gary Peters a lot of credit. It is my belief that those for some sort of reform outnumbered those that did not by a 3-1 margin, but the minority contained several rude, obnoxious, and frankly brain-dead, uninformed people who confused spirited debate with downright obnoxious (and in some cases racist, IMHO) remarks. You should understand that a lot of that crowd go from town hall meeting to town hall meeting just to disrupt things—and in some cases they are paid to do so.

Being a supporter of single-payer (Canadian style such as in HR 676) I am not totally happy with HR 3200. However, some reform is better than nothing, and I will be the first in line for the public option if that is part of the bill. Oh, and I got into it with the pro-lifers and other folks with other right of center agendas while waiting in line out in front of the school. I told one woman that I am pro-life in that I believe in healthcare to prevent sickness and death, and no unnecessary wars that kill a lot of people. Healthcare, not warfare! Oh, and I got a lot of compiments as I think I was the only person wearing an "Aldo" shirt.
