911 caller: 'I just killed my daughter'
Source: WOOD Television

The father accused of pointing a gun at his 9-month-old daughter and pulling the trigger during an argument with her mother made a chilling 911 call seconds after the shooting.

"I just killed my daughter," Christopher Rains is heard telling the dispatcher in a recording released Wednesday.

Rains, 22, made the call to 911 around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Responding officers found his daughter dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

On Wednesday Rains made his first appearance. Metropolitan Court Judge Victor Valdez set his bond at $500,000 cash only saying he felt Rains would be a danger to the community.

Police quoted Rains as saying he shot his daughter "because my ex-girlfriend doesn't want me anymore."

The 911 call lasted seven minutes. During that time Rains told the dispatcher he shot his baby in the head as her mother, who admitted to Rains she'd spoken to another man, watched helplessly.

5. And, as usual
A background check on Rains showed no criminal history. Police said Rains told them he'd previously pointed a gun at his daughter, but no police report had ever been filed about those alleged incidents.

That NCIS background check went through just fine. Just another law-abiding citizen and his Constitutionally-guaranteed gun. :banghead:

28. Keith features your kind of thinking towards the end of his program every evening.
But it's obvious you really DON'T understand to Moran-ishness of the examples you provide. See, cars and drywall weren't designed to end life. Guns were. Guns weren't invented because there was an epidemic of bullseye targets that threatened to overrun the globe - they were created to put a hole in another living being, so that the vital juices would flow out and cause mortality. See the difference yet???

Yup! you COULD shove a baseball bat up your rear and die from the injuries. By your "logic", baseball bats are as dangerous as firearms, automobiles and drywall. WOW! So baseball bats were REALLY created as suicide tools! We need to work on licensing baseball bat owners.

19. "Something else" would not have allowed him to kill so easily
Simply having a deadly weapon available tends to bring on violence. For example, households with guns have more suicide attempts than those without. Sadly, most of these extra attempts are successful. Can you guess why?

Seems likely that people who really want to commit suicide use the surest method. Hard to believe that guns "make" people want to commit suicide.

is the ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to have guns or people who feel the need for guns in your life. NO EXCEPTIONS, except maybe for cops and even that is dicey. The girl had a baby with a gun owner and now her baby is dead. THERE IS A CONNECTION. It's simple, people. There is only one way to deal with gun owners. Don't. At all.

Can I call you "Rudy?"

Out of curiousity, do you think that gun owners come with that fact tattooed on their foreheads? Do you think that EVERY ONE of the 100 million odd gun owners in the US is just slavering at the mouth waiting for the opportunity to murder a baby?

39. this story haunts me....
Dammit, I REMEMBER being 22, and I remember how ANGRY relationships could become over STUPID issues. When I read stories like this I can imagine myself in that man's shoes, and that leads me to imagine the sadness and remorse I'd feel for the rest of my life afterward. I was talking to my SO about this story this morning, trying to describe why events like this affect me so much. There are REASONS that people do things like this-- they don't make any sense in a larger perspective, but in the moment, when emotions are running high and the lizard brain has control, I can see all too clearly how we're all only a hair's breadth of self control away from doing something this horrible, and having to live with it. It took only a fraction of a second to pull the trigger, but I'll bet the memory of that instant draws it out forever. An instant of anger, and a lifetime of remorse.
