"Sen. Gretchen Whitmer, considered the Democrats' best hope in this year's race for attorney general, announced today she will bow out so she has more time to spend with her young daughters.
The East Lansing lawmaker said she raised more than $200,000 and picked up key endorsements, but reluctantly has decided not to run for the office being vacated by term-limited Attorney General Mike Cox, a Republican candidate for governor.
"It has become clear to me that this rigorous campaign schedule and pursuit cannot continue if I am to be the best mother I can to my 6- and 7-year-old daughters," Whitmer said in a prepared statement. "At this critical time in their lives, my girls need their mom to be there to pick them up from school, read to them at bedtime and help them with their homework."
http://detnews.com/article/20100120/POLITICS02/1200402/1024/POLITICS03/Sen.-Whitmer-bows-out-of-AG-raceI find this very disappointing. I was happy that she was running for Attorney General. Now, it seems almost certain that Richard Bernstein will be the nominee. I'm not particularly excited about his candidacy. I don't like candidates who get the nomination because of their name and money.
I was a supporter of John Cherry for governor too so it seems all the candidates I like are dropping out. I hope the Dems come up with some good nominees because it isn't looking good at this point.
