2. this weather is ridiculous. Does this mean...
...that we're going to have a summer of blazing heat?
...i mean, I like warm weather A LOT, but i fear the crops burning up and old people trapped in their sweltering apartments....

3. I thought Dec 12, 2000 was the coldest day in MN history.
Sure felt like it to me anyway. January 20, 2001 and January 20, 2005 are tied for second.

4. I remember that
Arnie Carlson ordered all the public schools in the state closed. The air temperature in the metro was -32, I think the windchill was down to -50 (Tower's -60 reading was air temp). While I agreed with Carlson closing the schools as I drove to work that morning praying the car wouldn't stall I wondered, at what point do people cease to be "precious" so that it's okay for us to risk our lives going out in weather like that? Apparently it must be when we become cogs in the capitalist machine.

5. I was driving to South Dakota in that weather
for a family funeral. It was brutal. We were going out to start the cars every 2-3 hours, so we would not get stranded. I bought my first cell phone for that trip.
