Paul Chesser, you ignorant slut ...
Climate change will cost us, all right ...
The state's advisory group on the topic has ideas that will waste money and intrude into our lives.

By Paul Chesser

The global-warming panic agenda is all about government growth and lifestyle control, couched in more pleasant-sounding terms like "incentives," "efficiency" and "climate-friendly." They are anything but innocuous.

This is becoming clear in the Gopher State. Minnesota's Climate Change Advisory Group (MCCAG) recently approved its recommendations for Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who appointed its members, and for the Legislature, which probably will consider the panel's ideas to be the gospel answers to the perceived crisis. (The Star Tribune editorial board weighs in on the facing page.) But most of the solutions will demand increased government intrusion into your everyday lives, will raise costs for energy and the taxes upon them, and will place greater restrictions on property rights. And it will lead to no measurable benefit.

"Incentives?" Try "mandates" instead. "Efficiency?" More like replacing effective sources of energy (like coal and oil) with the subsidization of expensive, uneconomical supplies of power (like wind and solar).
